Rhinos

So when a deal for the Rhinos is finally announced 8 is out to lunch. Saw that the D&C and 10 had it on their website almost an hour before anyone else. It was after 6:00pm and 8 still wasn't reporting it on their website. 13 was a little quicker but not by much. For weeks 8 has been covering the Rhinos ownership from top to bottom and today they lead catholic schools at 6? Someone missed that on Humbolt Street.

TVFUN-

Let's see you are giving props to a story that is now almost a week old. In the post 8 on the Ball - it seems that WROC broke the story that it was a done deal - with an agreement in principle (which in the business world - is a sure thing). WROC broke that story on Friday March 14th!

You wrote in that same post:
"Saw 8 report that the deal was done, finished and complete. 13, 10, RNews and the D&C all reported the deal was not completed and they all quoted City officials as saying it wasn't a done deal. 8 really on the ball. Sad how they give themselves props for being inaccurate."

So, as I see it - IT WAS NOT INACCURATE- it was solid reporting from working sources. But you can not bring yourself to say that, why? Because you work for one of the other media outlets (maybe) and you could not get any confirmation of it. So you want to bash, bash and bash, meanwhile you had your A__ handed to you on this story.

Now, you come out and "praise" the D&C, Ch. 10 and Ch 13... for finally getting it right, because they received a fax to their assignment desk... Press conference today! Rhinos deal done. That is some serious in depth reporting and great working of sources. Job well done. Thank god the assignement editor remembered to fill the fax with paper and order toner.

By the way - The impact of Catholic Schools in Upstate New York has a far greater reach to any audience, then a press confernce of the Rhinos being sold.

I agree with other posters on this board, you all are as near sighted as it gets and kiss the behind of the other media outlets and perpetually bash WROC. If you are going to call out one outlet... call them all out - or is that not what they taught you a SU!

Yeah, last I checked, Channel 8 already announced the deal was done. Why mention it again? Is it that slow of a news day that they would have to re-hash the news they said last week?

As my morning coffee was percolating, I nearly choked on my delicious scone upon reading a post
that offered proper due to Channel 8 for their hearty reporting of the Rhinos story. Mr. Walsh's merry
band of young journalists scored a nice coup there, but I caution not to get too robust celebrating a
nice win. There's news out there to cover---stories to be told, scandals to uncover. Have at it!
A war is not won with a singular attack, but multiple offensives. Now I'm going down to welcome
Mr. Paterson to Rochester.

Is this the same channel 8 that broke the gay bash story that was proven false?

I think it is so hilarious to watch a station get such joy out of breaking ONE STORY. Hey 8, other stations break stories all the time. It is what you are paid to do. I find it funny that the people who are most proud/suprised of them getting a story seems to be Channel 8's own employees.

Rochwacther- please take your own advice!  You are EXACTLY right - breaking stories is part of the business - that is why they have this thing called - BREAKING NEWS.  So please stop posting and kissing up when Ch. 13 or Ch. 10 break a story as if they were the best thing in television news.  Give credit where credit is due - that is all anyone is asking.

What's with all the 8 hate? Where is it coming from? I know we've had some fun bashing on WROC in the past, myself included, but come on people don't be obessesed. I will gladly give 8 credit and props for improvements. It takes time to build-up, give it a few years.

Besides, we're still waiting to see what Newport does with 13 aren't we?

hasn't that been 8's problem? long-term success? building up resources and making it better? doesn't that cost money?

guarantee every ND that's been in there since Bob Kirk has made half of what the previous one did... and isn't that what matters?

The difference is that 8 breaks a story and they go on a blog and brag....the other stations break a story, and go home and call it a day--because it is there job. Morale must be pretty low at 8 to be soooo giddy about one story that oh by the way doesn't even impact that many people.

For what it is worth, I don't work or live in Rochester, or NY for that matter. I just think it is hilarous that 8's employees have to troll a blog to try and drum up viewers when they are actually on the ball for once.
