Rhode Island's Talk Shows

WRKO and WTKK could gain alot by listening, taking notes as to how WHJJ HelenGlover 6 a..m to 10 a.m. and WPRO talk radio from 6 to 9 at night.

Great talk hosts, variety of subjects, they rally troops for different issues, good strong Tea party (not the national myopic group but, pertinent info for Rhode Islander's. All this weekend due to the tropical storm, talk live all day sat and sunday good conversation great updates,

Also, during the witner for each bad snow storm live conversation, great updates, and many are repeat, intelligent informative, thinking callers, and it has become a family .

Thankfully living in Southeastern Mass, we are fortunate to get the above stations. Not the pablum of Boston talk,

Imagine on WTKK the idiocy, like the Andelmen Brothers.

Or Huggie or Joe what the heck the blow heart's name is.

There are many Mass, callers from Western Mass, to the Coast north and south who have now joined the Rhode Island talk show group.

Oh, will WSRS go off air, all Fall River, what was a good community is now a third world City.

WHJJ is my favorite station - Helen Glover in my opinion is the best local talk show host. Unfortunately many Rhode Islanders listen to the old and tired hosts on WPRO (except for Matt Allen, who is very good).

I don't get this. WSRS is 96.1-Worcester. What does that have to do with Fall River? Did you mean WSAR? Why would WSAR go off air? They've got a C.P. for 25kW-Days. It appears they're doing well for themselves.

He must mean WSAR. Interesting side note, though completely unrelated to this conversation, WSAR Fall River and WSRS ("Worcester's Stereo Radio Station") were both owned by Knight Quality Group Stations once upon a time.

My telephone-talk radio listening days are over ( sports stations more a sub-category).

But I will say that Helen/whjj has an advantage of not being a native (I think?)
She can speak and be understood: not burdened by the atrocious accent.

There can be some awful Boston accents as well. But between the callers and most(not all) hosts, it's not worth the assault on you ears to listen to Prov-NYC.

At that time, in addition to WSAR & WSRS, Norman Knight owned WGIR-AM/FM - Manchester, NH, WHEB AM-FM - Portsmouth, NH & WEIM - Fitchburg, MA. All those stations rocked. In their own way.

And don't forget WSRS sister station WTAG-AM which was a great full service station for Worcester with an actual live and local news department based in the city.

Southern N.E. is a pretty good place for talk still. WPRO/WEAN-FM owns R.I., WSAR & WBSM battle it out on the South Coast. WXBR in Brockton has some local programming. WCRN is trying (although I usually don't put them on) to capture Worcester. In Woonsocket WOON & WNRI are competing for the Blackstone Valley's ears (although WOON is full service vs. N/T/brokered WNRI).

I was listening to WCRN this morning and apparently Clear Channel's WTAG is now seriously looking in the rear view mirror at WCRN gaining traction. One of the regular callers to WCRN said that the call screeners at one of the other stations in town (obviously referring to WTAG) will not let any callers on the air that regularly call WCRN.

In fact yesterday, Hank Stolz mentioned that organizations that are trying to get the word out to the community about any upcoming events in the city are being told no thanks by WTAG if they go to WCRN first.

I listen almost exclusively now to WCRN.

Also, I want to send WCRN a belated shout out for their excellent wall-to-wall coverage on Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene last Sunday. They were on the air first thing Sunday morning with Hank & Sherman beating WTAG to the punch by hours.
