RHODE SHOW REDUX

Looks like it's time to "arrange" another winner for Fox's Rhode Show. Auditions coming up next month. I still do not understand why employees of Citadel are not prohibited from entering this thing since it's partially sponsored by PRO-FM and Tony Bristol will probably be a judge again this year. That being said there are probably very few photogenic enough people in area radio to audition for this thing and those that do look the part couldn't because it would interfere with their full time radio jobs. However with the numbers of unemployed people up there in the state I wonder if $31K a year would be preferable to staying on the beach considering you could still be on the beach December 2010.

He's done at the end of the year. That's a one-year job that you win in a contest. Shawn is no longer on the Fun 107 website but I think that's fairly recent as he worked there while the contest was on and stayed on along with weekends at Mix in Boston.

That sucks that it's only a one year gig. Shawn seems to belong there now. Like he's part of the family. I guess he's the part of the family that gets kicked out on his ass. Oh well. I hope some totally hot looking babe gets the gig next. Someone like those girls on Univision who you can't understand, but you don't really care because they look so good.

Moonstruck, seriously? LOL..."arranged" is not even remotely true.

At the time of the open audition, I was part time at Mix and Fun...Fun, mind you, for 5 hours every week, at a small hourly rate. Not nearly enough hours or pull to have any conflict of interest in this contest. Not to mention one of the judges was Tony Bristol from Pro FM, and I never as much as interviewed for a job there.

I lost about 10 pounds due to stress alone from the search, so trust me, if it was arranged, I would have laid back and eaten like a pig. Fact was, I was getting laid off (with 300 other employees) from The Comcast Network in Boston (and throughout the Northeast)...so the contest was my shot at financial stability.

If anyone is looking to break into TV and are just looking for that first gig to get them off the ground, audition. I swear, the search isn't rigged, the gig is completely legit (no sugar-coating... deadlines, issues, they all exist), and it is an amazing launching pad.

The state has been amazing to me...hopefully I get to stay around the area. We'll see what happens...but again, October 1st (NYLO) and October 2nd (Twin River)...audition. The worst that can happen is nothing, and the best that can happen is giving you a career.

When is your last day on the Rhode Show?

No offense Shawn but on your end of it you competed legitimately. It's 2009 in the year of American Idol and in cases of competitions like this the station always knows what it wants. It's probably no different than a normal hiring process except that the public gets involved. If the station skipped auditions and public involvement the result probably would have been the same. Personally for that kind of show you were a good choice. Naturally I'm sure you know opinions differ greatly on that kind of show and the kind of smiley bubbly approach people have to have, but that goes with the territory. I doubt you would be privy to any arrangements or predetermined results and best of luck to you.

I don't see any motivation to have "FIXED" the contest to make Shawn the winner. I'm having a hard time understanding why they would even want to do that. So in my opinion they didn't.

Of course the station knew what it wanted. "TRS" is a show that is extremely important to the sales department, which in turn is important to the cluster and it's employee's job security (if sales go bust, jobs may go as well).

So when you are choosing a co-host along with the public, you are going to make sure that people up for the job are able to fulfill it. They have "pre-qualifications", and thus, the station selected the Top 5 in the competition (which was no secret)

Now, to say that I would have received the job even without the contest and public involvement...that is flat out incorrect. Some of the most recent stuff on my TV demo was from me interviewing Britney Spears at Kiss Concert 20 (1999). And as much as I knew that I could do the job, there is no way, with the reel I had in late 2008, that I would have received this job through standard means.

Thank you for believing that I competed in good faith, and I did. And trust me, I know I'm not everybody's cup of tea... (CraigsList Rants & Raves said I looked like Herman Munster a few months ago) ...but regardless, the gig is PERFECT for the fresh out of college, looking-for-that-break type. And even if you don't win, you have a chance to get a gig. (a la, Stephen Schuler, who went on to become a reporter for Eyewitness News, arguably an even bigger gig... or Anaridis Rodriguez, who went on to become the station's traffic reporter, through Metro Networks, on the station's request).

So, yes, the station definitely knows what it is looking for and expects from it's winner. And if you are qualified, and find yourself in the top 5, work your ass off. You have a shot to start your television career in nearly a top 50 Nielsen market...and that ain't bad.

(That being said, if anyone has any job opportunities that do not involve a contest, please let me know. ;) )
