Rhyner will speak on Greggo issue today @ 5:10........

It's all Greggo's fault per his highness Rhynes. He believes in 2nd chances "but not 4th and 5th chances" There is a "back story" that we may all never know. If there is a person in the world who uses "I" more than Mike Rhyner they need to step up because he is claiming that crown...

I don't think Rhyner came well in that segment, but unless Rhyner forced the dollar bill in Greggo's nose and shoved the other end into a pile of cocaine, how can it be anybody's fault but Greggo's?

Any chance of a run down for those of us who missed it?

Jobb05 summarized it pretty well-
the 'high' points are that the reason they haven't been saying anything is because legally they can't (Which makes sense, if he's admitted that he went back to rehab, HIPPA laws prevents an employer (or their minions) from commenting on that fact)

They confirmed that they were served with a cease and desist, which Rhyner says pretty well shuts the door on any chance that GW will return.

Said they've been very much out of the loop, as this is all being negotiated out between lawyers, corporate types, HR types, etc...

Also said they haven't really had serious consideration of a replacement because until the C&D hit, they didn't know what the odds were of GW returning- but now, with taht unlikley, they'll start considering the 'new future'.

Rhyner said he's "energized", revitalized, renewed, or "somesuch"...Said it's nice to have 'everybody working in the same direction' now, implying that he and greggo (or Greggo and Corby/Danny) whatever, weren't seeing eye to eye on 'direction' of the show...

as for the "4th or 5th chance", we know he's been in rehab twice now. There's was also an extended sick time a coupel of years ago, IIRC...Wonder if that's being viewed now through a different lense...

Thanks, Little1!

I think today's explaination shows just how 'out of the loop' we P-1s are.
It seems to me that many of GW's absences over the past couple of years have been more drug-related than we thought.
As much as the show seemed to be running along smoothly, obviously there were a lot of potholes in the Hardline Highway.
Today's revelations were probably the last we will really hear. The HIPPA and HR issues will keep us from knowing the 'back story'.
The Hardline as we know it is dead, lets just hope the sequel will be more "Empire Strikes Back" than "After MASH"

Thanks Alan, for providing the podcast links!

OK, if anyone cares (and if you don’t, then skip over this post), I think this is a very unfortunate situation for everyone involved, and although I agree with the notion there’s a back story here, the broadcast speaks for itself, and there’s really no other way to handle it.

The Ticket has no choice but to move on, so those who are whining, complaining or bashing KTCK for not broadcasting “15 minute updates” on the situation are way out of line. When a C&D comes down, the only logical move is to abide by it. Whoever it was that posted the comment on the Observer site about the enforceability of a C&D based on who issued it (i.e. attorneys vs the judicial court system) comes off to me as someone with zero PR skills. He or she may not like the explanation, but any respectable company should and would honor the order. It’s a huge gamble to do otherwise.

(And to think some of you claim I have no understanding of a “business” operation. I did take a Business class in college, and I have a friend who has a degree in the field).

As much as we P-1's hate it, Mike is right. We have to move on. I will continue to listen to KTCK. The current line up still entertains me. Thats why I listen. Sports/Guy Talk, I don't care. I want to be entertained while I sit in the vehicle or work on the PC at home.

Greg Williams should just move out of this market. He won't work in DFW again. Its too much of a risk. To any and all of you PD's who read this board, would you hire him?

We may never know what Greg did in the past to upset his co-workers, but it seems to me that they don't want him back.

Life goes on, just like it did when CBS blew up The Oasis, or when Good Times went off the air.

You have always been a sage, haven't ya' brother? ;D

Lastly, a couple of observations:

1. Note his transparent apathy. "We don't owe you anything... and uh, you don't owe us." Man, those boys could talk to a wall and be cool with it as long as the ratings came and the calls from listeners didn't. How do you spell disdain? K-T-C-K.

2. Nice to hear this... finally. But why did this go into the abrupt left turn Corby/Danny apologist rant?! Yeah, Corby has filled in nicely and yeah, we miss Greggo, but to hear that said "new guy" will be the NUMBER THREE because "Rhyns Hearts Corba" is not so much.

3. NEVER underestimate the greatness of Grubs! The "Coach Joe" and "Larry North" drops were wonderfully timed and great comic relief.

4. Let's move on. Mike Rhyner has cemented his place in Dallas folklore with the discovery of the lil' Ticket. This station will not go anywhere. Sure there may be a slip in the book, but wait a while... they'll be back. They always are. I usually am as well. ;)

I might be in the minoritybut I happen to agree with what Mike said......."We don't owe you anything, The only people we owe here are our bosses. We owe the good radio every day. You don't owe us anything. You don't owe it to us to listen. This is all freewill. There are no guns there... You listen because you want to. You listen because you either like it or think we suck less than anything else out there." We have no right to expect the employees of this station to jepoardize their jobs to let us know what is going on behind the scenes. Even though they have done so in the past, its their choice to do so,

That goes for any type of entertainment venue you choose to patronize.

Just trying to be truthful hoss.

One thing that got me in the whole situation has been Rhyners lack of real care for ther audience and general self-righteousness from him and Corby(oh, boo hoo hoo, its been hard on us). A comment such as "We Dont Owe You Anything" was a true slap in the face to the P1 whos been a ticket defender since day one. Add to the asskissing session that Corby and Grubs launched into on-air just added insult to injury IMHO,seeing these two are just filler until mike finds a heir apperant for Gregg. I know theres certain laws concerning relase of medical information (HIPPA), but at least in the days of "The Laddy", we had someone who'd take responsibility in these matters. As someone else mentioned, Laddy took to the phones when Coop got canned years ago and answered every upset listener. Theres two things thats have lacked from The Ticket since the Susquehanna Nation Days, something called character and backbone, where you put the audience first and your own needs second. Sounds like Rhyner has that whole situation flipped around.

I also agree gregg had every right to file a C&D in this situation due to the sheer misuse of his character properties for the shows own self amusement. The guy is being made the butt of a joke due to his personal problems, which he has been honest about and talked at length. What irritates me in this whole deal is the guy isnt getting the help he needs from his fellow staff when it comes to helping his drug problems. I bet if we threw open the doors at "The Little Ticket" we'd see a plethora of problems with the host, production staff and managment as well.

Let's be fair. The Coop firing and this situation are totally different. When Coop was let go, that was simply a matter of a disagreement in styles. The Laddy wanted to go in the proverbial 'different direction' and Coop was let go. He came on and explained that and we went on with our lives. There was no medical or legal matters to deal with. With Greggo, they simply can't talk due to legal reasons and even if they could, I am sure they wouldn't. As it seems there were many more drug-related absences and setbacks than we know about, I doubt Mike, Corby, Danny and Cat would come on and give us detailed descriptions of each relapse that Greg had. That issue is no of our business. Even though The Ticket has been very open about thier lives and the radio world in general, there is a line even they can't cross. The most upsetting part to me is the realization that, for an extended peiod of time now, life was neither hunky or dory on the hardline. It felt to me, as we listened that things were great between all parties. Its discouraging to find out that was not the case.
