The only city that I know that has Rhythmic music working well in the west coast is Fresno and Las Vegas. Other stations in the west coast is either evolved into CHR's or Rhythmic Oldies.
Rhythmic Oldies in the west coast.
San Francisco 98.1 KISQ
Sacramento 101.1 KHYL
Stockton 100.1 KQOD
Salinas-Monterrey 105.1 KOCN
Fresno 97.9 KMGV
Fresno 94.3 KOKO
Bakersfield 99.3 KKBB
Los Angeles 92.3 KHHT
San Diego 92.5 XHRM
Honolulu 94.7 KUMU
Honolulu 93.9 KHJZ
Las Vegas 105.7 KOAS
Phoenix 104.3 KAJM
Tucson 106.3 KGMG
Denver 101.5 KJHM
San Francisco 98.1 KISQ= Started as Rythnmic Oldies but then pattern after KHHT but this station lean more towards Urban Oldies. Once KMVQ dropped Rythnmic AC for Rythnmic CHR KISQ adopted the Rythnmic AC format and it was good. Then it shifted back to Rythnmic Oldies. The Bays Oldschool
Sacramento 101.1 KHYL= Rythnmic Oldies but shifted to Rythnmic AC. Somewhat still is
Stockton 100.1 KQOD= This is Rythnmic AC my second choice. It even sounds like a Urban AC sometimes it reminds me of KHHT a few years back. Very good station. The audio sucks on my iphone app
Salinas-Monterrey 105.1 KOCN= Still Rythnmic AC I heard Lady GaGa and Ashanti the other night on my iphone while I was working out but mostly Rythnmic Oldies music
Fresno 97.9 KMGV= Always Rythnmic Oldies probally one of the orignal Jammin Oldies station left CBS launched this station in the 90's Fresno has a new Rythnmic AC station KFBT 103.7 The Beat it replaced a Rock station
Fresno 94.3 KOKO= This is Art Laboes station whatever you hear on his show on KHHT at night this station plays it a mix of Top 40 Rythnmic R&B Classic Soul. Not bad of a varaiety
Bakersfield 99.3 KKBB= This has always been a Rythnmic Oldies station since day one
Los Angeles 92.3 KHHT= The big mystery of them all. Clearly it's now Mega 92.3 (2011) verison all the currents are gone mainly due to low ratings. Los Angeles has had alot of history with this format sadly they all bit the dust
KMVN Movin 93.9 now Spanish Exitos 93.9 LMA through Mexico City for the next 7 years
KIBB B 100.3 Now 2011 100.3 The Sound owned by Bonneville
KBIG 104.3 Even though some called it Hot AC. Now its 104.3 MYFM a bland Hot AC type Adult Hits station Star 94.1 down the road sounds better
San Diego 92.5 XHRM= Launched as Rythnmic Oldies but when CC had control of it during the early 2000's it was Rythnmic AC with a few currents but leaned towards Oldies.
Honolulu 94.7 KUMU= Sounds like XHRM in San Dieago
Honolulu 93.9 KHJZ= Use to be Rythnmic CHR Hot 93.9. The flip was a response after another Rythnmic AC KUMU shifted towards Rythnmic Oldies. This is a pure Rythnmic AC and probally one of the best ones.
Las Vegas 105.7 KOAS= It use to be Smooth Jazz but its consider Rythnmic AC I guess because a few 90's and early 2000's hit are in rotation This the second Rythnmic AC station in Vegas KPLV had the format but then it started to shift to Top 40 with a few retro hits.
Phoenix 104.3 KAJM= This station is confusing. Lets not forget Movin 97.5 started as Rythnmic AC but then shifted to Rythnmic Top 40 then Hot AC (KBIG clone) then flipped to Christmas music and now its Hot 97.5 A mix of Top 40 and Hot AC all Rythnmic elements are gone
Tucson 106.3 KGMG= Rythnmic Oldies since day one. They recently just started adding 90's R&B
Denver 101.5 KJHM= Always a Rythnmic Oldies station when it first launched last year. The old Jamn 92.5 was Rythmic AC for a minute
This is just a fade format that really hasnt had any sucess. WKTU evolved with the times which is why they are still on the air despite leaning more on the Rythnmic CHR side. For the westcoast its all about musical taste and these station are playing a bunch of Freestyle and 70's 80's and 90's hits that are burned out by other stations. I like the format but companies only use the format to make a profit after the sales are down the station is gone sad but true.
