Rhythmic radio flashback: Ghost Town My Boo(1996)

This was a smash on the radio but peaked at #31 which was odd because it was getting heavy spins on urban and rhythmic during the 90’s. The song was a hit on Power 106 and 92.3 The Beat. It even hit No. 1 at Power 106 according to the Billboard Airplay Monitor in the September 20, 1996 issue. I can’t for the life think of a good R&B song with a bass beat that would be a hit in this day and age. I hear it on LA’s 93.5 KDAY and KJLH on occasions

Peace,

Brandon1993

Same here man. This song is on heavy rotation on my playlist as well.
I heard a Pitbull remix of "Lovers & Friends" by Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz feat. Usher and Ludacris on Real 92.3 on Friday night. That specific version of the song took me back to 2005 when Latino 96.3 would play it and when Power would give it mixshow spins. What made it even more nostalgic was that the song was immediately followed up with "Make Me Better" by Fabulous and Ne-Yo. Two 2000s throwbacks back-to-back on a currents-focused station and makes me wanna get back into listening to FM a bit more again :)

Yeah Real 92.3 does play 2000’s throwbacks from time to time.

Quite often actually. Real plays 90s throwbacks as well. It's too bad Power 106 no longer play 90s hits. I mean, it's weird not hearing any 2Pac, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg on Power 106 but I guess that's due to being K-Day's sister station. Their oldest recurrents are songs like "All Falls Down" and "Snap Ya Fingers".

Yeah it’s weird not hearing those artists on Power. They used to own 2Pac, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Snoop, etc back in the day but those days are over bro.

Over for Power 106, but at Real and Kday will still continue to give the 90s/early 2000s love. Felli leaving was the last straw for the Power 106 we grew up on. Never thought I'd ever say this, but I'm at the point where I wouldn't shed a tear if Power 106 was to flip.

I don’t think Power will flip because they’re a heritage Rhythmic station that has been in LA for 39 years but I understand what you are saying. I listen to Real and KDAY more now since Felli Fell left last year.

The departure of Felli Fel felt like the last remnants of Power being the station we grew up with were gone and has become something else entirely. Maybe Power 106 will return to its classic West Coast hip-hop if that station were to get a new owner and it's no longer shared with Kday.

Yeah because Murelo messed up a great station.

The station had drawn me back in two-three years ago when they did throwbacks on Thursday. But once Power 106 went extremely current-heavy and playing nothing older than 2004-2005, I lost interest. Guess it's a symptom of the fact that, in two years, I'll be out of the current-oriented demo.

I wish they haven’t stopped playing throwbacks from the 90’s and early 2000’s but I still listen to Power from time to time.

I simply check Mediabase pages or Recently Played to keep up with what Power, Real and KDAY are playing. It's understandable for Power 106 to not play older throwbacks as long as it and Kday are sister stations.
