Rhythmic Radio in 2006

One of the big questions that's on everybody's minds is just where does Rhythmic Radio go from here in 2006?

Many Rhythmics are seeing low ratings and we are sure they are all figuring out how to regroup. Some have elected to go back to Rhythmic's Roots by sprinkling pop and dance in. Some even are looking at the new Reggaeton genere coming out of the East Coast as a way to shore up the Latino Audience.

And some Rhythmics will be celebrating anniverseries in 2006. Those include KPWR, WQHT, and KMEL.

Well I would love to see the format broaden up a lot more. And with Gwen Stefani and P'Cat Dolls already making inroads in 2005 we could see more similar artists taking that same route in 2006.

As for Dance, it was great to see DHT and Madonna get some play at a few of the Rhythmics. I wouldn't be surprised if Cascada start piquing some interest in 2006. And hopefully see more Dance product crossover to Rhythmic as well.

In a way 2006 will probably be the year we could the format regroup, and from the way it looks they can't live on 50 Cent or Ciara alone, plus they need to put creativity back into the format which is lacking a lot of excitement these days.

I don't expect Gwen Stefani or the Pussycat Dolls to "live" at Rhythm radio, they had a couple of songs that fit the vibe of the format thanks to Pharrell, Slim Thug and Busta Rhymes.

Meanwhile, I'm thinking it's about time for that ol' pendulum to swing towards that pure pop sound again for mainstream causing the CHR/POP stations to blow off the Fiddy Cents and Ciara's of the world and focus on the next big POP thang. It should be a fun year tho. Just think, at this time last year most of us still thought Mariah Carey was done, cooked, over. Who'll have the next big comback? J-Lo? Jesus I hope not.<P ID="signature">______________
