Rhythmic V. mainstream CHR

I don't understand where the line is. Here's KUBE, rhythmic contemporary from Seattle.
Nelly - Ride Wit' Me
Drake and Lil' Wane - The Motto
Kid Cudi - Day N Night
Mariah Carey - Shake It Off
Wiz Callifa - No Sleep
Jason Derulo - It Girl
Drake and Rihanna - Take Care
Big Shawn and Chris Brown - My Last
David Guetta and Nicki Minaj - Turn Me On
New Boys - Back Seat
Seems as if that list was a little more hip hop than I've heard them before, sometimes they lean so CHR I can't tell the difference. Here's KQMV, rhythmic-leaning CHR from the same market,
Katy Perry - Part of Me
Trey Songz and Nicki Minaj
Addelle - Set Fire to the Rain
Pitbull - Give Me Everything
Gym Class Heros Feat. Adam Levine - Stereo Hearts
Jessie J - Domino
Pitbull F Chris Brown - International Love
Nicki Minaj - Starships
Rihanna - All of the Lights
Katy Perry - The One That Got Away
Gym Class Heros - Ass Back Home
Now here's KFAT, rhythmic contemporary from Ankorage, AK
Usher - Climax
Addelle - Set Fire to the Rain
Nelly - Just A Dream
Baby Bash - Cyclone feat. T-Paine
Katy Perry - Part of Me
B.O.B. - So Good
Calvin Harris - Feel So Close
Outasight - Tonight Is the Night
The Wanted - Glad You Came
Addelle - Someone Like You
Now that was rhythmic CHR from Ankorage, now let's move to the other side of the country, KHKS in Dallas will be our last station.

Advertising is easier if you bill yourself as mainstream CHR rather than "Rhythmic", so you've got a lot of stations pretty close to the Rhythmic chart reporting as Mainstream CHR

I think "the line" is more a case of how you want to bill/market yourself, rather than what you play

Ok, makes sense with KQMV and KHKS, both being rhythmic-leaning CHRs. However, I don't get KUBE and KFAT. KUBE bills themselves as hits and Hip-Hop, and during PE sometimes it's on in the weight room, and it's almost a mainstream CHR. Then there's KFAT, seeming to present itself as a mainstream CHR, even though it reports as rhythmic.

KUBE is an Urban-leaning Rhythmic like WAJZ/Albany or WPGC/Washington, IIRC? Some Rhythmics lean closer to Urban, others to Mainstream CHR, and probably a few towards Rhythmic AC :)

Edit: WAJZ/Albany playlist sample:
DAVID GUETTA - Without You f/Usher 23.3.2012 11:06am
DRAKE - The Motto f/Lil Wayne 23.3.2012 11:09am
LOVERANCE - Up! f/50 Cent 23.3.2012 11:17am
FAT JOE - Another Round f/Chris Brown 23.3.2012 11:22am
DEV - In The Dark 23.3.2012 11:25am
TYGA - Rack City 23.3.2012 11:29am
DRAKE - Take Care f/Rihanna 23.3.2012 11:37am
WAKA FLOCKA FLAME - No Hands f/Roscoe Dash & Wale 23.3.2012 11:41am
CHRIS BROWN - Turn Up The Music 23.3.2012 11:45am
J. COLE - Can't Get Enough f/Trey Songz 23.3.2012 11:53am

But even mainstream CHR sounds real close to rhythmic these days, especially when you consider that there's very little rock product for the format to choose from.

Wired and PST bear little or no resemblence in except that PST will sprinkly Rock into their playlist. Wired has more emphasis on Rhythmetic.

In this case
PST is the Mainstream CHR
Wired is the Rythmetic CHR

The rock product is out there, but Hot AC has essentially replaced Top 40 in numerous markets as the true mass-appeal format out there given the latter's obssession with BPM.

Many Hot A/Cs have musically moved closer to CHR/Pop over the past couple of years. What tends to differentiate them from the CHRs are the amount of Golds and Recurrents (though some Hot ACs are very current-based), the lack of Hip Hop titles, how late they are at adding the Rhythmic/Pop hits, and the amount of Adult/Rock records they play that generate little interest for most CHRs
Meanwhile CHR is as mass appeal as ever based on the ratings, and, more importantly, the cume generated by these stations.

I really don't buy that - there's plenty of rock product to choose from (look at the WIXX playlist) - stations are just choosing not to play it

I assure you, there is more rock product then any other. It's just not "CHR-POP" enough.

It's coming back, look at Fun - We Are Young and the new one from One Direction, which I haven't heard in a couple days, but I've been listening to AC lately, having just discovered the most awesome station out there since KLSY died in 2002. Although I do like AC and all, what is currently CHR is probably what I remember 30 years from now.
