Rhythmics in danger of being flipped

I went over to the Top 40/CHR message board and they bought up a interesting topic. So far 2010 the Rhythmic format has not been so kind to WIBT (now Top 40/CHR), WBTS (now News/Talk), KIKI (now Rhythmic AC), KYZZ (now Oldies), WYPW (now Talk) and WUIL (now Active Rock). So far, the only ones that looks like it may be in trouble ratings-wise is KHHM, KKFR and KAGM. One has to wonder how these stations can hang on at this point, and beyond those three are there any others that are showing signs of trouble.

I don't think rhythmic as a whole is really in as much trouble as it seems (as mentioned somewhere on these boards before). WBTS flipped not because they weren't "good enough", but because they figured the talk format would raise ratings more with their fm combined with their AM. KKFR is only failing not only because of their weak signal, but also due to the fact that a (once) new rhythmic popped into town somewhat unexpectedly and has been hitting hard with their clear, strong signal, and hit musical trends have rather recently just happened to go more in their direction of sound than KKFR's sound. On top of that, KZZP also leans rhythmic heavily, so that's like two full power rhythmics teaming up against another rhythmic with musical trends evolving towards the heritage sounds of the two full power rhythmics. The once heavy urban lean KKFR is not benefiting much from the fall of hip hop chart domination. They would've had a chance to evolve with he times and survive on a stronger signal, but unfortunately, with all the recent circumstances, they've fallen to third place in the rhythmic world.

I do, however, still wonder which rhythmics in danger of being flipped?

WXIS in the Tri Cities region of TN also seems to be in danger ratings-wise.
That's why last week they opened up their playlist to Dance tunes from Edward Maya and Yolanda Be Cool.

Now thats a station you don't hear much about on the boards. And they been a Rhythmic since 1999.

I hadn't even realized they'd switched names from "Jammin' 92-3 & 103-9" to "92-3 Jamz" until I went to the website. When did that happen? Anyway, living down the road near Knoxville, I get to hear them occasionally and always liked them, but wish they'd stream so I could hear them more often. Anyway, with two mainstream CHRs in town competing against their rimshot signal now, it's a tough go for them. They are up against WAEZ "Electric 94.9" and the newer WKOS "Channel 104.9", which both have way better signals. WXIS's main signal at 103.9 isn't very good in most of the market, so they use the translator at 92.3 to give them better coverage in the Tri Cities (mainly Johnson City, which is the most important of the 3 cities). I actually think Citadel's mainstream CHR format on WKOS "Channel 104.9" sounds pretty good. But they don't seem to be getting any traction against "Electric 94.9" after flipping from Hot AC earlier this year either. Electric is a decent CHR with a pretty big signal (but they tend to lean too adult CHR at times for me, and play too many goofy rock based stiffs that seem to work for them though. Also, Electric's owners must be really conservative because they tend to edit everything. They edit the last verse on the Eminem/Rhianna song, and also play the censored version of the Script's "Breakeven" and the most edited, "Forget You" version of Ceelo Green).

I used to live near the tri cites and wasnt able to get this staion,, I was like 2 hrs away,,,,, And the only thing I could get resembling a rhythmic was 102 Jamz Greensboro-winston-salem URBAN,, and 105.7 Hit Music Now,, Winston Salem -Clemens..Rhythmic leaninc CHR at the time,, but not one of the better Now staions

WIBT leaned Top 40 for a few years. I knew it would only be a matter of time before they changed.

I know at one time in Vegas KLUC and KVEG were on the brink of shifting from rhythmic to Top 40.

How about those 2 today?

You can put KLUC in the "Safe" column. KVEG, well, thats a question there and they seem to be trending toward more Rhythmic Pop and less Hip-Hop lately.
