RI-104

This probably dates back to the mid 80's, but there was a period when the RI-104 jocks referred to themselves as VJ-DJs. Does anyone remember where the "VJ" came in? Was it music videos at a cable station or did they host music videos at local clubs?

The term "VJ" (or "VeeJay") either came directly from MTV or was at least popularized by it. IIRC, MTV launched in 1981, didn't it? Probably the jocks were just riding the wave of popularity that MTV enjoyed by then. It was the "hip new thing" or some nonsense like that. :)

I was probably 10 or 11 during the height of RI 104's popularity. I remember sitting next to the radio, literally, for hours waiting to record a song I liked on cassette. As a result I can STILL remember all of the advertisers from the station at that time! I think for the same reason we can all still remember the advertisers who were on 6, 10 & 12 on TV in the 80's. It used to be so easy to get a message out to customers effectively, now it is just so fragmented.

Remembered "Red Decker in the Morning" with Bob The Clock (talking clock that would only say the time) - It's seven o'four AM, It's, It's, It's (when the button was pushed over and over).
