RI Public Radio - WRPA off the air?

Can anyone tell me why RI Public Radio's WRPA AM1290 is off the air?

From what I hear, it's for sale and includes a license for a translator.

The AM signal looks pretty good, why is it off the air?

Anyone know?

why not take 30 seconds to look things up? its in the fcc cdbs database:

THE LICENSEE SUSPENDED OPERATION OF WRPA FOR ECONOMIC REASONS. THE CURRENT STA EXPIRES AUGUST 13, 2019, AND ADDITIONAL TIME FOR AUTHORITY TO REMAIN SILENT IS NECESSARY.

1.) I can never find what I want in the FCC database. ;-)

2.) The "data"-base won't have any first hand reports from people who might know what is going on there. Being close enough to Boston, I figured some folks on this board might have more of the "story behind the story."

3.) Looking for speculation on the sale/purchase...who might buy it, do what with it...and at what price.

1290 had been running a programming service provided by an outside programmer until that contract came to an end. There's no reason to run up a power bill just to rebroadcast the public radio programming that's now on FM (WNPN 89.3/WNPE 102.7/WELH 88.1).

The AM facility and FM translator CP are indeed for sale, and as the broker handling the sale, I'm happy to provide plenty of information to qualified buyers. (We've also fired the AM back up for signal tests for prospective buyers.)
