Rice's KBLT-LP 96.1 to launch on October 2

K217GB is authorized for 99 watts, but appears to be running only a fraction of that, as the signal is very poor outside the Medical Center area. Supposedly it is somewhat directional to the west, but I've never remembered to check the coverage along the SW Freeway or the southwest portion of Loop 610.

It's probably running 99 watts, but the building it's on isn't very tall so it's going to get clobbered with multipath before it ever gets out of the Med Center. It also has to stay out of the way of KPVU.

KBLT has a decent amount of height at the stadium, so it does better with its 41 watts, at least based on what I heard when they were testing. It signs on at midnight tonight.

I still don't think K217GB is at 99 watts. The signal is very poor, even nearby. The previous incarnation on 91.5 with only 10 watts from Rice Stadium did much better.

KBLT must be through with transmitter tests, as I haven't heard them on the air since Tuesday morning.

No dice from the 4-4 at a midnight check for the lunch special. All KYKZ up here.

Looks like KBLT has officially launched. Heard them on my commute this morning as well as in the early afternoon heading to an appointment. TOH ID's I've heard state "You're listening to K-TRU (K-true) on 96.1 KBLT-LP Houston and on ktru.org." The KBLT call is never given outside the legal ID.

Meanwhile, KPFT HD-2, which had been running KTRU since 2011, is now dead air.
