I hate it now and hated it when I had to play it as a jock when it was new, but it was number one in the US and UK and sold 9 million copies, so someone must have liked it.
9 million seems a little high.
Okay, a lot high. The RIAA says the best-selling single of all time, Elton John's "Candle In The Wind" (Princess Di) version is around 8.8 million.
"Tie A Yellow Ribbon" was a much bigger record than "Knock Three Times" and it's believed to have moved 3 million copies.
Yep, the 9 million was wrong: it's six million worldwide. RIAA probably lists US sales. Elton John's Candle in the Wind did 33 million: http://submeg.com/2011/01/24/best-selling-singles-of-all-time/ and I hate that as much as Knock Three Times.
