Rich Fields Out At The Price is Right

Used to be that Off Camera Announcers were pretty much guys from radio, but that trend seems to be over in favor of stand up comics. It's been happening more and more and now at The Price is Right. According to Don Barrett announcer Rich Fields has been let go in favor of an improv comic. Fields confirmed that he has accepted a position as the staff meteorologist at CBS flagship stations KCBS and KCAL. So at least he has a job. Si8nce most shows already employ warm-up comedians this looks like they're just saving some cash by combining the two jobs.

Rich has been on all summer long. Does this mean the show has not been new for that long?

Wow, talk about hiatus...

Johnny Olson was the best at TPIR!! Bring back Bob Barker too! :)

No, actually they only used a few reruns during the summer, usually special-themed shows. TPIR tapes several shows per day starting in August and after a few months, they've taped all the show they need to air till early September.

You may notice that host Drew Carey was heavy in the shows we saw through early September. Then when the new season began, he had lost about 80 pounds. So I suppose he lost about 15 pounds a month from late winter to mid summer.

I'm still confused as to who the new announcer is. I don't think it's the same person each week. Unless they're testing out several till they find the one they like. All are male, by the way.

Yeah, they seem to be "trying out" new announcers. This show can continue to be successful, but they need to ge their ducks in a row, and soon.

What happened to Pat sajak?

Rich Fields is guest announcing WOF for 9 weeks in the wake of Charlie O'Donnell's death. They are trying out other announcers this season as well. Pat Sajak is still the host.

Ironically, Rich worked the weather yesterday (and I'm assuming for all of this week) for KCBS's midday newscast, which of course follows The Price is Right.

Real announcers they are not. They are stand up comics, the few I've seen are guys Drew has worked with on Whose Line and one in particular sounds like a stereotype of an announcer, over the top inflections and a little bit of puke. They're all horrible so far and I'm being kind. But hey, they're probably good audience warm up guys, but how sad they are as OCA's.

I thought Rich was doing a great job on TPIR. Some of these new guys are not only bad announcers, but their improv talents have a lot to be desired! Rich was smoother and a much better fit. There's one guy, "JD" that can't even hold a hand mic right. He puts it up in his face which really looks lame on camera. The best guy that has auditioned was a bald guy that had a good on-camera personality and a good voice for TPIR. I hope he gets the gig permanently.
