Richard Plessinger Dies

Dick dropped by the Free Radio 105.5 studios when we were broadcasting back in those days. A nice guy. He was the one that tipped me off that he thought there was another Non-Comm frequency available on the west side. 88.9 ClassX might not have happened without his tip.

I'm not sure how old he was. Anyone know? Anyone know where the funeral will be held?

Radio Group Owner Plessinger Dies
Broadcaster Richard Plessinger has died at the age of 72. Plessinger, who owned radio stations in Ohio and Florida, sold his last station in Cincinnati just several months ago.

Plessinger is survived by his wife Clair, three sons, one daughter, eight grandchildren, one great-grandson, and a sister.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2808 Reading Road, Cincinnati 45206 or to Hospice of Cincinnati, PO Box 633597, Cincinnati 45263-3597.

Brown-Dawson Funeral Home in Hamilton, OH can give you the details....last time I checked their website, it was down.

You have to give him credit for trying to do some interesting things with his Cincy stations.

1320 AM's "Elvis Station".

107.1 FM's "The Breeze" and then "The Heat"...both satellite-delivered, but interesting nonetheless.

I've always been a radio station owner wannabe. Last March, when I read there was a falling out between Dick and the previous leasors of WCVG, I called Dick to discuss leasing/buying the station. After two minutes, I felt like I'd known him all my life. We spent 40 minutes yacking. I visited him the hospital a couple of times when he had a bladder operation this summer. We had all hoped the cancer was caught. Unfortunately, when they went back to Florida, they found more cancer. Dick and Clair came back to Ohio Thanksgiving week. Dick told me cancer was found in his liver and he was going to undergo chemotherapy. Apparently it was worse than originally thought. Clair just told me Thursday, he did not get the chemo. He died peacefully in his sleep.

What a wonderful man. I always told him, "I wish I'd known you 30 years ago". His response was always, "I'd have worn you out." It was always followed by that chuckle of his.

His favorite quote was, "Radio has been good to me."

He had told me he was one of the founders of Cellular One, among other things. I've never liked someone so much for having known him for such a short time. My sister asked me why God let me meet someone like him, just to take him away so quickly. I tear up as I write this.

Merry Christmas everyone.

My late husband Kurt Farmer and Dick were good friends. Kurt and Dick had all kinds of things going in the late 70's early 80's when we lived in the Cincy area. Kurt and I built the antenna site for what was WOKV Hamilton and of course he got Dick a prime spot on the tower. Dick was such a nice and funny guy - He and Kurt probably have a lot to talk about in that great big studio in the sky.

Don't forget 107.1 as Joy 107 FM. One of the best sounding A/C stations ever in this market (in my opinion) even though I believe it was satellite-delivered as well.
