He was one of the greats, controversial or not. He'll be missed.

BTW CNN's "Larry King Live" is airing a rerun of a interview he did with Pryor on January 7th, 1987 tonight(December 10th).

I saw that. Part of an interview from '95 was also aired. According to NBC News, SNL was scheduled to work in a tribute for tonight's broadcast. I wonder if Comedy Central plans on doing any tributes? I read that Richard also wrote(or co-wrote) episodes of "Sanford & Son". I talked with a friend of mine earlier tonight about this. He's in his late 20's and is a Pryor fan. Richard had a fanbase that spanned generations(not to mention ethnic groups). We lost a legend today. I was watching CNN this evening and they had a reporter live at Richard's star at the Hollywood Walk Of Fame where people were gathering. I admit I actually teared up watching. RIP, Mr. Pryor, you will be missed.
______________

Anyone remember "Pryor's Place"? Richard's attempt at kid-friendly programming.

I think he was actually trying to mellow out at that point.
______________

Nevertheless, the show, produced by the Kroffts, was controversial, since Pryor was more synonymous with profane humor. A few stations refused to carry "Pryor's Place", at least at first, on that point. Though most of the stations that bumped or delayed Pryor was due to college football. And some also did so, because they had something better to show.

It was these non-clearances that caused "Pryor's Place" to flop. But, considering that he was getting more "mellow" at this point (as evidenced in films like "The Toy" and "Superman III"), who knows how well he would do if he had the full network.
