Richie Whitt's Mystery Guest

Greggo did sound good, just like the first few days with Richard Hunter, but then.... However, I wish him well and I hope the past is in the past and he is on his way to better days.

As for the fan, what a horrible station, even with Greggo, I couldn't listen for more than the first 30 minutes. The multiple topics going at once, the callers, emails and instant messages, brutal to listen to. How that station gets any ratings at all is beyond me. Like a poster on RW's blog said, the Ticket has nothing to worry about and I think even ESPN is safe.

I caught one segment before turning the dial. On the upside, Greggo sounded lucid and was clearly the better of the two broadcasters. I hope he can keep this sober streak going and find himself a new radio home.

On the downside, all I heard them talking about was RW's 10 hottest women in DFW television post- and it was dull, dull, dull, dull.

As a P1, I don't mind a sports station staying off sports. But Greggo and Richie had the sort of conversation any two random dudes might have had in a bar or a coffee shop on the same subject. There was no real rapport between them. There was no interesting spin on the topic. No one said anything which would qualify as comedically funny. It was just a generic bit of small talk between two dudes- and nothing is as painfully boring as listening to someone else's generic conversation.

And here is the real difference between the Ticket and their competition. The Ticket has that "just some dudes talking" comfort factor, but manages to deliver just a little something unexpected to make it worth listening to- be it an out of place comment, a drop, or an on-air argument.

Schtick works. Generic doesn't.

Hiring Greggo would probably be the "nuclear option" for the Fan -- the weapon of last resort.

(Short of hiring Bacsik, but then that would actually require the Fan to talk sports because that's the only thing Bacsik knows.)

The train wreck factor would budge the needle a little.

Argh! I tried to listen at lunch and they were debating how old is too old to have kids... I just couldn't take it. They had three people call in.

I am actually embarrassed for Richie. Not because they've sunk to the bottom of the barrel with Gregg, but because of the way Richie is conducting the segments.
He's acting like Chris Farley on SNL. He thinks Gegg is this awesome figure that we must know more about.
"Hey Greggo, what's the worst thing you've ever done." "Wow! You're crazy man!" "877-1053. Call in and tell us the worst thing you've ever done."
Pathetic.

You'd think CBS would listen in ever so often and realize that this thing just isn't working in [the United States of America].

If you think that CBS listens to anything, you'd be mistaken.

Would that final option not be Bacsik and Greggo?

The final option would be the Bascik and Williams Morning Zoo on an all Ranchero Music Station.
