Richmond Area Public Stations Rebrand As VPM

https://radioinsight.com/headlines/179294/richmond-area-public-stations-rebrand-as-vpm/

Richmond VA based Commonwealth Public Broadcasting will rebrand its network of radio and television stations from “Community Idea Stations” to “VPM” on Monday, August 5.

The rebranding will affect the two radio brands run by the organization as Public News/Talk 88.9 WCVE-FM Richmond will be known as “VPM News” and Classical/Jazz 107.3 WBBT-FM Powhaton/93.1 WWLB Ettrick becomes “VPM Music“. 89.1 WCNV Heathsville and 90.1 WMVE Chase City will air a mix of programming from both networks. The two public television services that serve Richmond, Charlottesville and Harrisonburg will become “VPM PBS” and “VPM Plus” respectively.

Rebranding takes place on August 5th.

It’s about time...branding was quite weak as “Community Idea Stations”. They later learned from that and just advertised the station in question by their call sign.

I am quite fascinated with the two stations outside of the metro. When WCVE finally split their programming, WCNV and WMVE continued on simulcasting WCVE News. I’m curious what caused them to want to return to mixed programming and how those stations will be branded.

Anyway, getting rid of the spectrum up in Northern VA really allowed Commonwealth Public Broadcasting to do some much-needed upgrades to programming and a buying spree of radio/TV stations. Let’s hope that continues!
