I thought that at the time WTVR radio
was on 1380 AM. Also, Channels 8 and
12 swapped networks in 1965; we used to
have Channel 8's listings in the Raleigh
News and Observer, and I remember when
they went to ABC.

Your're right about channel 8 and 12 swapping in 1965. I don't know what I was thinking. I had a friend in college whose father worked at WRVA and played a big part is convincing NBC to drop 8 for 12. It was an interesting story. Regarding 1380 AM---they changed from WMBG to WTVR-AM in about 1968, the same time they changed their format to "Request Radio," a fairly innovative move at the time. At the same time, WCOD changed to WTVR-FM and started airing the automated "Hit Parade" format, I guess a kind of Hot AC. Roy Parks had just bought all three stations from Havens and Martin and was making some long-overdue changes.
