Rick Barry Latest To Leave KNBR

The Associated Press and the Contra Costa Times report this evening that Rick Barry is the latest to leave Sports Leader KNBR:

Barry's contract was up at the end of this month. According to Tony Salvadore, KNBR's senior vice president/market manager, the station had been negotiating with Barry for the past couple months, but he echoed the sentiment that Barry left on friendly terms.

"It was a lot of different things. He had other things that he was looking at," Salvadore said. "Rick has plenty of other things going on. He has a lot of irons in the fire."

"It was really a mutual-type of thing," Barry said Monday. "I was always concerned that when you get new ownership, you never know what's going to happen. I was told they were thinking of doing something with my contract. I was looking for some other things to do."

Wonder what Uncle Gary will have to say Tuesday morning...

Wasn't it Gary who was quoted as saying something like while the changes that were being made were unfortunate for the people concerned, you didn't have to worry about the station until the "big guys" like Razor/Mr. T/Rick/Gary started leaving?

My personal opinion, so it's worth what it's worth, but I don't listen to KNBR anymore, except for games.

They desperately need a decent local morning show. Murph and Mac are hacks. I tried listening again this morning, and had to turn it off it was so bad - you could tell that they were reading their bits from a page ("Confucious says. . .").

I heard better radio when I was in grad school in Ithaca, NY.

Ah, but you gotta admit, Uncle Gary Rabbinich (mornings nine to noon on The Sports Leader) is some great radio most all the time.

Will Brooks fly solo now, or did having Bob Fitzgerald come in a few weeks ago act as a trial run?

Would someone please tell me WHY Rod Brooks is still there? The guy has never been an attraction at the station. I think the only time I COULD stand him was when he was on with Fitzgerald. He sounds like a nice guy, but he just bores me.

As for Barry...It's about time. That was an awful hire. His ratings blew goats and he just wasn't cut out for radio. I thought he was a fine TV analyst, though.

Outside of Gary and Tolbert & Ralph, the station needs these changes. Gotta get a new morning show. They're almost better off running a syndicated morning show.

Knbr need a complete overhaul.

Radnich shctick with the clapping hands and the constant references to modern music and acting hip is a total joke along with the same old callers with nothing to say except wanting to hear themselves on the air but that refers to most if not all of those get a life people.

Rod Brooks dont no why he is needed maybe because he is a minority always the week link in all the 2 person shows he was involved with. Terriable interviewer dont know how he keeps a job for so long proably above reason ??? That is one i would not mind see disapearing.

Tolbert and Ralph. Tolbert is like a juvenile on the air today taking a half hour talking about Ron Mexico on Jerseys that along with those frequent and repetitive sound clips and Ralphies no stop yammering and same old stories too .

The only good talk is Chis Myers show at least he has good guests and is informative without the schitck.

Knbr would be smart ;D to have Ted Robinson do a show solo but proably has other sports events to do. Its always a good show when he is on too bad ralphie was co hosting.

Greg Papa used to have one on 1050 and was good. If they as talked bring back Fitzgerald that would be good except hopefully no Brooks!!
