Rick & Bubba...corporate sellouts???

Rick & Bubba Move Home Base
SYNDICATED SOLUTIONS has decided to move syndicated morning show THE RICK & BUBBA SHOW out of its long-time home base, BLACK CROW Rocker WRTT/HUNTSVILLE, AL, and move it crosstown to CLEAR CHANNEL Classic Rocker WQRV "THE RIVER." This is part of a larger deal that will eventually put the show in other CLEAR CHANNEL markets, such as NASHVILLE,TUSCALOOSA and PANAMA CITY.

BLACK CROW is less than pleased and has refused the 90-day notice and let the show go immediately, calling RICK & BUBBA "corporate sellouts," among other things, in the local HUNTSVILLE TIMES.

If Black Crow says they're going to have a new, local morning show, maybe it's a blessing in disguise. What's that old saying..."When Life gives you lemons...make lemonade"? Sounds like they don't have any lemons, though, just sour grapes.

I don't know if that's such a good idea of bashing Rick and Bubba over the air, on the Rocket's website, and via the Huntsville Times, either; it may come back to haunt them eventually. Maybe Rick and Bubba did not do them right, I don't know, but I think Black Crow's response shows a lack of business professionalism, radio or otherwise. It definitely isn't a "selling point" in getting people to come work for you on a morning show. Kinda makes you wonder what would happen to you if you left on bad terms, also. Would you receive the same treatment?

Why does this topic seem so familiar? ::)

Judging by the latest Arbitrends for Huntsville, Black Crow needs to do a lot of work. WRTT has rocketed down from 6th to 10th place in the 12+ listings.

This topic should have been called "Is The Rocket better off without Rick & Bubba?". And to answer that, only time will tell.

The past two mornings I tried to listen to the Go Fish show and I couldn't stay tuned in after the first or second hour because it's seem to me like every other "morning show" in the market. By that I mean, the hosts would talk for a few minutes then play a bunch of songs, then talk again, and so on. If this is how it's going to be, then it would be better for them not to have a morning show at all. Instead have Fish just be a morning dj and have traffic reports throughout the shift. And has for the ratings, I'm not surprised by that. If they would stick with the format they are suppose to be instead of trying to be like WTAK-lite, then ratings might go back up.

It's a novel idea, isn't it?

A syndicated morning show that wants to grow by clearing more markets actually... clearing more markets!

And why is it only "selling out" when someone else does well, or at least tries to?

The top two stations in the market (ZYP and DRM) have morning shows that talk a little bit and play alot of music. I don't think Rick and Bubba were helping the station at all - they belong on a Country station or an older leaning station. All that bible thumping gave me a headache. I think the River is a better fit for Rick and Bubba, and the Rocket will benefit too because they're finally able to play their music in the morning.

I wonder if Clear Channel made the move for Rick and Bubba because there's a rumor that Cumulus is going to put on a country station soon?

I thought from the promotion the station did that this new Fish morning show was going to be somewhat different than the others. I suppose I should lower my expectations in the future.

I hope the River's handling of the R&B show isn't like Mixx 102.9 was. Mixx would usually join in a minute or two after the original R&B feed came back from the break because they would mistime their news report often. That was very annoying at the time.

Refer to the post "New format for 93.3 Huntsville"

I agree that this will be a good thing for The Rocket. Rick and Bubba was never a good fit on that station. Also, both WZYP and WDRMs morning shows are local morning show. No sindication. If they would stick to Active rock and bring in a good morning show, I think The Rocket will increase in numbers from this.

::)

Oh please. Corporate sellouts? Right... I had the pleasure of meeting these two class acts once and I can tell you that they are anything but sellouts. It was a business decision... if the ratings for the station were tanking then they needed to be somewhere where, oh I don't know, people would actually be listening to them. Otherwise it's a waste of their time.

The listeners in Huntsville might be a bit upset about the fact that they won't bear R&B until after the first of '08 but I think they'll ultimately be better off. This is win-win.
