Rick & Bubba on Supersport 930

WJNT took them off several weeks ago. I also noticed they aren't on 94.3 in Hattiesburg and WLAC in Nashville either. I thought they had moved to satelite or something.

WJNT has "The Wall Street Journal This Morning" to replace Rick and Bubba. This is really more in keeping with what they do during the day which is talk.

Rick and Bubba are on satellite in addition to many OTA affiliates all over the country. From the sound of things, they pick up new affiliates - outside of the south - weekly.

I'm curious about the appeal of RnB outside the south. They seem like they'd be a hard sell in places where the good old country boy routine sticks out. Places like Illinois or whatever.

I'm not criticizing their show or anything, it just seems like a strange fit. It'd be like putting Tom Leykis on in Jackson or Curtis Sliwa on in Guam.

Actually, Tom Leykis was on WJNT about 12-15 years ago. We aired Tom's weekend show, but it didn't stay on very long... hard-core talk radio listeners are a very vocal bunch!

I do recall Leykis being here. If I'm not mistaken, he was more politically oriented than he is now with his guy-talk format. Am I correct that he took over Jim Hightower's time slot when Jim was fired by ABC for criticizing the company on air?

I could see Rick & Bubba getting affiliates in parts of the Midwest and over into Texas. Outside of that, probably not much.

If you think thats weird, WZRX 1590 once aired a weekend version of Howard Stern. Back when it was a rock station. They also used to carry Dr. Ruth Westheimer when it was WYHT Adult Standards. Little old ladies must have been losing their dentures when that show came on right after the Sinatra and Bing Crosby records.

I believe they have some affiliates in New England and I want to say they may even have a couple on the west coast. The show seems to lean more conservative talk a lot of the time these days as opposed to entertainment (although that's certainly still there). It's also interesting to see the variety of stations they're on. The XM channel they're on is a talk channel.
