Rick Dees’ Weekly Top 40?

Is Rick Dees’ Weekly Top 40 carried by any terrestrial radio stations these days? Or is it only on satellite radio? Looking at rick.com, I can’t seem to find an affiliate list.

He's still around. You just need to look at various CHR websites to see who carries him.
Don't forget his show is also heard on satellite radio

Re: Rick Dees’ Weekly Top 40?

My station runs his show.  He has a hot AC and rhythmic version as well.

He switched syndication companies for the third time in about five years.  Is he that hard to work with? ::)

Not really the issue. He's been doing the same schtick since the 80's. Same jokes, same sound effects, same gimmicks. Radio folk appreciate it because of the nostalgia factor, and maybe even a few listeners, but it hardly has value anymore. It DEFINITELY doesn't do much to connect with the current CHR audience.

It was my lame attempt of sarcasm. ;)

The same morning zoo bits and laugh sound effects are still on there since it first began.  He could freshen it up a bit every 10-15 years or so.

The only affiliate near me that carries his show happens to be the most powerfull station in the nation. 200,000 Watt Q94 in Richmond, va. But they bury his show to saturday mornings, 6-10am.

He had more affiliates when he was w/ Premiere, but they dropped him in I wanna say '06. He was w/ Dial Global but as of this year, hes back w/ ABC Radio networks. Hopefully more stations will pick him up. Perhaps 92.3 Now fm in NYC? Or the 'so-called' future CHR flip in DC?

BTW He is NOT on XM anymore. Probably becuz of the abc thing. His 1990's countdown are still rotating thru on the 90s station, but thats it.

Unless you have satellite it's getting harder & harder to find his show.

Best way to find him is to goto this site here: radio.nenad.net
If the show is on, it lists it on the right. Or you can use the drop down menu to see what stations carry the show. NOt all of them, just some of the ones you can hear online

theres always rick.com

The only time I remember the CHR/Pop version of his show airing in Chicago was on WKSC-FM (1035 Kiss FM). I believe they dropped his show in 2004 or 2005. I don't remember. I just know that his show was aired on Sunday nights around 8 or 9pm, until 12am. Prior to that, only his Hot AC version was on in Chicago on Q101, until the station flipped to Alternative Rock in 1991. I even noticed that U93 in South Bend Indiana must have dropped his show as well, as they aired his show for years in the morning hours on Sunday. It looks like they picked up AT40 with Ryan Seacrest to replace Rick Dees in the same time slot.

The CHR version doesnt air here anymore... I guess im into the nostalgia of things... I still love Rick, and I wish Kasey was still around... Hollywood hamilton is good, but I dont like Seacrest at all....

I used to like evenings, Mon. thru. Fri from 9-10 or 10-11pm on 92.5 WMHE in Toledo they'd run the 1, maybe 2 hour show... "Rick Dees American Music Magazine". I think they counted down the top 5 song of the day & did basically the same cool funny stuff & interviews as the "Weekly Top 40".
At the time he was still married to Julie Dees & she did some character voices...like "Dear Crabby"...wish I could remember some other characters he'd have.
Still have my copy I bought in high school of his "Put It Where The Moon Don't Shine" album. ;D

WGTZ/Z-93 Dayton, OH. carried Dees for several years, from 1994 to 2007 when they flipped to Adult Hits. No other station in the market has picked him up. Originally Dees replaced American Top 40 in Z-93's lineup when it left the airwaves in '94(Dees was originally on Sunday nights 7-11PM I think). Right before Z flipped they were airing Dees 6-10AM Saturday mornings, as they had been doing for quite some time.
