Rick Dees back on mornings in LA?

From All Access:

"Rick Dees "Weekly Top 40" Goes Bi-Lingual On KXOL

"Ricardo Diaz"
Beginning SUNDAY (3/5) The "RICK DEES WEEKLY TOP 40" returns to the air in EL-LAY at SBS Hurban KXOL (THE NEW LATINO 96.3).

DEES put on his RICARDO DIAZ voice and told ALL ACCESS, "It's great to be back on the air in LOS ANGELES with my show which will add in con sabor (with flavor) to the music. We are going to be doing the show in a bilingual format, sprinkled in with the right Latino Hip Hop and Reggaeton selections, from DADDY YANKEE, IVY QUEEN, WISIN & YANDEL, LIL ROB, and so many more. This show will be a blast to do. And, we will be offering it in other markets in this version, too. Putting this show on KXOL will show many folks that for L.A., it's a mass appeal general market station."

DEES will make an appearance on KXOL's morning show with NICO JONES & SKY-L.A. during the 7a hour on FRIDAY (3/3). And, speaking of being on the radio, SES let it slip that he's building out a brand new, state-of-the-art studio. Not only will be he producing the "RICK DEES WEEKLY TOP 40" from there, but could it be the home of a new daily show? Lotta rumbles about where DEES may end up doing mornings again, in L.A."

Does this means his "mainstream" Weekly Top 40 is going to convert to this format or is he adding another "flavor" for the Hispanic community?

Anyone know if he is still at the Premier building or the mention of a new studio would be the future home of Rick Dees Weekly Top 40?

Is SES the new Executive Producer for the show or is he just a Producer?

You know, I never imagined that Rick had such an Latino appeal...
Imagine, Rick Dees doing a show on Power106?

No, I just don't see it.
Anyone?

Also, are they deciding to keep their other countdown show,
TRL Latino, which airs on Sat. mornings.

Interesting how Dees show is set to air on Sunday while
Daddy Yankee's much publicized radio show, "On Fuego, is tentatively
scheduled to premiere on Sat.(March 4th) in select markets.

Daddy's show is said to be a lifestyle radio program and not
necessarily a countdown show but
does anybody know if KXOL considered Daddy's program?

Yes, I had noticed his appeal in the Latino community especially during the 80's and his interaction in that community. Dees transends cultural barriers and thats why so many people love him no matter what their make-up is. That's why I thought this would be a good thing for Rick to be on KXOL but I am not sure how a daily morning show would go. But just think how many English speaking, non-hispanic listeners would be drawn to that station. This would be a huge move on KXOL's part.

Perhaps one reason is because Rick Dees is as transparent as they come~

When did KIIS officially drop "Weekly Top 40"? I thought I remembered that it was still on KIIS when Rick left the morning show...

Did anyone else hear Dees this morning on KXOL?

It was unleashed Dees - without a straight jacket anywhere.
Killer.

If I remember correctly, Dees left in Dec. 2004? Weekly Top 40 was quietly drop in Jan. 2005.

Pull WT40/replace with AT40

VERY quietly dropped.

Replaced by Premiere's AT40 With Seacrest, this was the first of Premiere's concerted year long show replacement effort (strongly urge affiliates to drop WT40/replace with AT40) that continued throughout the year...whether affiliates wanted it or not.

Dees was in PRIME form - fresh content, unleashed. Wide open. And he didn't hold back. Nico and SkyL.A. were terrific with him. Any question about Dees not working well in L.A. on an hurban format were quickly abolished this morning. It did. The listeners' responses told the story: they want him back.

Can't wait to hear his Latino Weekly Top 40 Sunday.

According to www.rick.com, The Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 is distributed by Dial-Global X Radio and Dees Entertainment Worldwide, so he is probably not doing the show from the former Sherman Oaks Dennys.

Previously, Suckcrest used the 6am-10am Saturday slot for his butchering of AT40, while Dees still had the 8am-12pm Sunday slot for WT40. Everybody knew that Dees would be gone completely from KIIS by January of 2005. What actually happened was that Dees' last show was not the last Sunday of December 2004. Instead, it was the 2nd-to-last Sunday. Since his countdown show normally has a 2-part year-end countdown, I remembered what happened. The 1st part aired, but the conclusion was never played in LA. During that week, there was bad weather around the world and some people theorized that those poor conditions was the reason, and that perhaps a copy of the show never made it on time. However, I pointed out that the same show actually aired on a station in Africa about 36 earlier.

Please tell me why it was difficult to work with Rick Dees...
I mean this in the most kind way but, I believe if you have
something to say that is so negative, you should back it up with
honest facts.

so many people love him no matter what their make-up is.

There WAS bad weather that week, and many stations around the country were forced to replay old shows for Dees, Seacrest, and Kasem on affiliates that still used CD's for the shows. HOWEVER.....the shows were available to be downloaded on Premiere's FTP server...and there is no doubt that KIIS was already doing it. Was the first half of Rick's year-end countdown replayed on that final weekend, or was it Seacrest?

Dees was definitely not there. I believe they played AT40 instead.
