Rick Dees' New Venture

R&R says that come next week, Rick Dees is going to launch a new venture called "All Number 1 Hits," a live, 24/7 online audio/video channel targeted to a wide swath of listeners, namely anyone from 6-34.

Sounds familiar - is their playlist going to be just Number 1 songs from the past 50 years? Because that's something that the CBS-owned channel http://www.allnumberoneradio.com already does.

From what I understand it'll be a current-intensive CHR targetting 15-30 year olds.
And we all know Rick Dees can really relate to that age group. Will he have online ads showing him shaking his butt again?

Rick Dees got little notice from the press while at Movin. He'll now fade away very ungraciously.

Yeah the movin TV ad sucked and he'll go kicking all the way, but it's because he can't relate, not because he's old, the two don't always go hand in hand. If that were true we'd all have to retire at age 30.

I think he'll mainly be programming the station, along with his son Kevin, not hosting this new station.
Remember, Rick still hosts the Weekly Top 40 so he does knw what's hot on the charts

Sounds like a wonderful idea! Hope it works out.

So I guess he can do this while receiving the rest of his contract money from Emmis?

How much time left on his contract?
4 months.

It's been stated in many recent news articles that he'll be paid until September plus we've posted that he had a 3-year contract here for 2 1/2 years.

Well I guess I missed it.

I'm sure they could get Dick Clark to do the same thing for cheaper and with the same results.

A web stream of current Top 40 hits? That's exactly what the world need less of. It's as homogenized and safe as you can get. I wish Rick Dees success in this venture but let's be realistic here, no one outside of Los Angeles will check in and those that do will be fleeting in a few short weeks.

The internet is always evolving and changing. What Rick is doing is neither. Check out shoutcast, Top 40 streams are a dime-a-dozen. Is adding Dees Sleeze or Candid Phone into the mix really going to make a difference?

Enjoy absolute obscurity Dees.

Those amateur streamers don't have nationally syndicated weekly countdowns on terrestrial radio. And they don't have industry connections that might ultimately help Dees' ventures and of those who partner with him.

That, and I don't think many efforts from 'britfan30301' will make the trades. I'm sure Dees has a lot more off-air irons in the fire than you think.
