Rick Dees Year End Countdown

What was up with Rick's year-end countdown? He didn't intro or outro a single song....it was all "Top 100" sweepers between the music...many of the songs were never even given numbers. At the end of segments a Dees 'bit' would air, but i'm pretty sure they were all old bits he has used throughout the year. Occasionally Dees would come on and simply say something to the extent of "Number 72" during a song intro.

What was up with this? Seacrest blew him away this year on the AT40 Top 100 with his newsreel clips and such. Did something happen to prevent Rick from doing his normal Top 100?

Now only that... Some numbers weren't played OR EVEN MENTIONED. If your station plays the optional filler songs, you'll notice that those songs replaced a a song from the top 100.

For example...

78 - "Your Body" - Little Ricky
spots
Optional song "Family Affair" - Marry J Blige
76 - "Let's Get it Started" - Black Eyed Peas

Obviously Family Affair is waaaay to old to be a countdown song, but Rick didn't even mention what the number 77 song was. At least 77 could have been the optional song, so most stations would have aired it.

How do you do a countdown and not mention the titles? I'd be dropping the show and picking up Seacreast if this continues.

On AT forty if a staion didn't play the optional song which on AT 40's year end countdown was a numberd song, Ryan mentiond the number of that song on the first cut of the next hour. By far, We carry both WT 40 and AT 40 and by far AT 40 was the better countdown.

Although I will live eat and breath Casey Kasem countdowns from now until I die, I can honestly say Ryan's Year-End countdown was very well done. If I were a CHR station, I would definately be running Ryan and Rick...but after that Year-End show, i'd definately be giving Rick a second thought.

Usually good countdowns do play optional songs, but they aren't in replacement of numbers. Example, (this may not be true, I missed the countdown) if #2 was "Since U Been Gone" and #1 was "We Belong Together", then an optional song in between it could've been the #1 song of 2003 "When I'm Gone" (or was it "Where Is The Love?"...it's one of those, or "In Da Club"). But I'm just giving an example.
