Rick Hughes - K105FM

Just read that Rick Hughes has been "asked to retire" from WQHK. What's the real deal? From that description, i'm guessing budget cuts, just like every other radio story today.

Wow. Rick Hughes started with the original WMEE AM in 1971 or 72, and after a short hiatus was back after WMEE flipped to FM and WQHK signed on as a Country station on 1380. That's a heck of a tenure to be just "asked to retire".

When I went to work on WQHK in 89 Rick was there, along with Bill Collins and Jerry Paxton...I learned a lot. (I would have rather been on Rock 104 being a metalhead but a job's a job...) Rick was great to work with, and I liked it. I ran board on his remotes occasionally and it was a breeze.

Why they're "showing him the door" instead of praising his career, well, that I'm not going to go there. I don't know. Another good jock out the freakin' studio window...

Rick was a Great Guy when i worked for him in the mid-70's at MEE. a Great Long Run at ONE Place, it is unusual, he was blessed. sad to say but fact is, they're getting rid of the oldtimers, the younger ones work cheaper, until they show them the door like Rick a few years from now.

Rick Hughes, a true radio professional.

Yes, he is.
but, he had a LONGER RUNat ONE radio station than MOST OF US GET IN THIS BUSINESS..
he was Blessed, and should be thankful.

Before his WMEE days, Rick was mid day at WLYV in Fort Wayne when this station was top 40 and commanded over 50% of the market share. I did evenings at the time and we owned the Fort Wayne Market.
