Rick Mack new GM at Star 94

Former Kicks/Eagle (True Oldies) sales director Rick Mack takes over for Mark Kanov over at Star 94. He also worked at Fox 97 and six years as GM at V-103.

When he didn't get the GM job over at Citadel earlier this year, it was pretty clear he was going to seek new climes. Here's a challenging one for him!

I worked for Rick at FOX 97, my last on-air job, and he was really great to me, even though they'd decided I wasn't part of their future plans at the time. He reached out to me personally prior to me leaving there in 2000, and couldn't have been nicer under the circumstances. Since then, we've continued to have a good relationship. He's a really good guy, knows his stuff, and is a fair, thoughtful boss, with a clear understanding of the challenges facing terrestrial radio in the future.

He even came to my dad's funeral back in 2001; I was so surprised to see him, as I'd left FOX 97 a year previously and didn't expect much in the way of old radio colleagues there. There were a few close radio friends there, which made all the difference--and Rick also attended, and I really, really appreciated it.

Whatever Star 94's going through, and God knows I have a soft spot in my heart for that station having worked there for 10 years prior when it was then 94Q, Rick will handle what he needs to handle with class and forethought, IMO. Best of luck to him; he's one of the "good guys".

Congrats to Rick Mack. Smart and good guy. Lots of work ahead but he can do it, and whatever he will do, it wll be with class. He is a great guy and perfect after Mark Kanov for many reasons. High road guy!!! Good news for STAR

Without reading too much into this...Star 94 is flipping to oldies and Randy & Spiff will be doing mornings. All this will take place by Oct 1.

Did I get that right? If so, then my prediction that one of the four new morning shows would be gone by Labor Day is only one month off. Take that all you nay-sayers!

The Mess will be moving to Macon.

I've known Rick for a long time, and he's a class act.

Citadel should have promoted him, but perhaps they preferred a Citadel rather than an ABC person.

Best of luck to Rick.

Ditto to all the above. I've shared many a laugh with him and enjoyed working alongside him. A nicer guy you will not find and the man knows his stuff. And he's smart enough to let people trained in the art of programming do their thing without neck-breathing. How refreshing! This proves that good things happen to good people. And yes, Roddy he should have gotten Victor's gig, and yes they wanted a Citadel guy because as we all know Citadel is such a well-run company.

By the way, Citadel stock is $0.88 today.

I had the pleasure of working with Rick at WBIG in Washington – in fact, he was at the helm when the station had its first # 1 book… A class act. There are few like him in the business today. Congratulations, Rick. Hope the new gig is everything you want it to be!

Mack Daddy is the best.....I'm envious of their staff. They are so lucky to get to work with him!!!!! Congratulations Rick

QOTD.......when you do the right thing.....good stuff has a way of happening! Randy Pausch

I AGREE WITH THE REST OF THE POST. RICK MACK IS A TRUE FIRST CLASS RADIO GUY. I WORKED FOR RICK AT KICKS AND EAGLE. HE WAS AWAYS VERY FAIR TO ME AND THE REST OF THE STAFF. LIKE ONE OF THE OTHER POST, WHEN MY DAD HAD HIS KNEE REPLACED, RICK WOULD ASK ABOUT MY DAD ALMOST EVERYDAY. THAT JUST SHOWS THAT HE CARES ABOUT HIS EMPLOYEES AND THIER FAMILES. BEST OF LUCK TO RICK OVER AT STAR 94. I KNOW HE WILL DO WELL.

According to Kristen Gates, when everything went down at Kicks/Eagle she said that when Rick had to announce the news that he looked heart broken and that his hands were shaking. Hey Mitchell where can I hear Thunder Road now?

Yeah, I remember that day (Feb 29). That look on Rick's face will be forever burned into my memory. I actually felt sorry for HIM. It was surreal. He had to read the notification from a memo, verbatim.

By the way, Citadel stock is making a comeback: $0.92 today! Nice job, Farid!

(Closest Thunder Road affiliate is WCJM West Point, Saturdays at noon)

Everyone has said that about him on that day. Sandy Weaver said he was a nice man that never should have been put in that kind of position. If the nearest Thunder Road affilaiate is in West Point I won't be able to hear it. the only good Nascar show in Atlanta now is Captin Herb's show on Saturdays on WSB. Hope to hear you back on the radio soon.

Never worked with him but have heard good things, seems in line with the comments posted here. He has his work cut out for him.

Adding nothing to the discussion except my public congrats to a really good guy. Go get em, Rick!
