Rick McCaffery Doing Traffic Reports

I was listening to the radio and Rick McCaffery is now doing the traffic report, what wrong with him? Go back to the "Solid Gold Jukebox" and play some 50's and 60's oldies and the "Doo-Wop Cruise". I like the "Doo-Wop Cruise" with Rick a lot better than Don K. Reed. I checked on WKIP's website, that there is no "Solid Gold Jukebox", I don't know what happened to it? Is there a website where I can listen to Rick McCaffery's show streaming?

Rick is one of the most outstanding personality in HV radio where he does the "Solid Gold Jukebox" on Friday nights, but now he's doing traffic, come on!

My guess is that Rick is just trying to make a living. Why begrudge the guy a job that might pay more than radio?
Shouldn't he be able to make a living?

I'll bet he makes more $ doing traffic reports, than voicetracking an air shift.

Many ex-radio broadcasters discover-much to their embarassment, and after lifelong money struggles- that 'Civilian" jobs can pay 2 TIMES (or more) that of radio "careers".

Give the guy a break, he just wants to pay the bills and maybe have some sort of future.

Rick is a retired school teacher; as was said he did the solid gold jukebox on many local stations on friday nites, and now still does the show on fri nites, on WKIP, but has limited (end of the driveway??) range...tooo bad, quality show with a seasoned radio vet who knows the business and the music. I'm sure he does traffic just to stay in radio and a part time job.

590buddy ;D

Rick was always an amiable on-air personality, and while he may be "overqualified" for his current traffic reporting gig, his competence is a refreshing upgrade over the succession of novices who have been in that position at ClearChannel in recent years, with no idea how to pronounce the names of most of the region's roads, no public speaking training, and no credibility.

I don’t listen to WKIP much but for a while I have heard Rick doing various things on 1450 in the morning ,including reading news . The last I checked Solid Gold Jukebox was still on . Perhaps he is doing traffic etc. to keep his employment full time since he retired as a school teacher .Is it a waste of his talent , sure , but this gig pays the bills, and he still has the Jukebox on Saturday nights. What other choices does he have? Nobody else locally is doing oldies. To bad his primary show is on a weak AM station though .Like many AM stations probably do to lack of maintenance the signal has deteriorated over the years ,to the point I have to listen through the chatter at night in nearby Hyde Park .
