Rick Shaw's sign off song when he was on WQAM

I wonder if they will let Rick Shaw play his sign off song on his last day on the air? If you were a teenager in the '60's and lived in South Florida you probably remember the song. Gloria Estefan did when she recorded an album of songs she grew up with. For those who were not around the song was "Goodnight My Love" by Ray Peterson. Rick signed off with it every night when he was on WQAM.

There were also the wild tracks of Tonto and LTR. I'm not sure he always knew what tracks were coming up but he always made it work. It was some funny stuff that you don't hear on the radio anymore.

Thanks Rick!

And for a lot of years, Rick ended his show at WAXY 106 with his signature sign-off.

The odds that Rick will play "Goodnight my Love" are certainly better than if Majic were owned by CC or Cox. In another post someone mentioned the longevity of the Majic talent and while we are at it - look at the longevity of the format.

In this case, for those who love the oldies format (even the hybrid format of today) need to realize that if Majic was owned by one of the big boys - sentimentality, personality and the format itself would have been long gone. Could you see any of the big guns pay the kind of salary Rick was getting for delivery of an audience that certainly was skewing older? We certainly know the answer.

And so as we reflect the end of one era and the beginning of another, it's good to see that in this day and age Majic and personality radio represented an alternative to all the sound-alike, no one should be over 40 radio stations out there.

Bruce Kelly is a fine choice to take over the morning show. No one can really replace Rick for obvious reasons. While I think Bruce could work well with most formats, I am hoping the ultimate owner can answer YES to the Spoonful's musical question. "Do you believe in Majic?"
