Rick "The Stick" Dead

Robert Wood, the last of the great state capitol reporters, posted a glowing tribute on his facebook page. He said in part, "I will always smile when I think of the stupid stuff we did both on and off the air most of which you could never do now. I will miss you. RIP Rick 'The Stick' Mireles."

I will miss my friend Rick Da Stick. He was one of my good friends in and out of radio. He guided me through the radio biz. I learned alot from him. I remember seeing him when I was young at a local teen club he was with Power 93. Who would have thought in several years I would be working with a legend at KTFM. He was a big wrestling fan and so was I. Even after radio we were still keeping in touch. His favorite word for everyone was mijo (spanish for son). He use to call all the guys that. I will miss my friend and my mentor Rick Da Stick (Richard Mireles). Love you my brother. You will be missed but never forgotten, we will see each other again Mijo. Wenno bye.

Agreed. Rick was always nothing but kind to me and had such an infectious personality. I can hear his laugh even now... his memory will live on.

Wow, I known him for years, never met in person but we'd always talk over email, will be missed!

Rick was a true personality never afraid to share the Mic. He really loved wrestling and especially his daughter whom he raised on his own. he touched everyone he ever came in contact with. I can only hope that when my time comes I can leave such a lasting impression. R.I.P. Rick you will truely be missed. -Big Mike

One of Rick's first jobs was working for me (at my first radio job) around 1980 at KBOP in Pleasanton. Best I remember, Rick was a SAC student and drove down to pull an airshift. He wasn't very good but man he loved radio. I still remember hearing him years later on the air and being blown away at not only how he progressed but excelled in the business he loved. Rest In Peace

I knew Rick from back in his SAC days too, I was friends with him and his wife at that time "Debbie" we all got snowed in once at my house during a freak storm here in San Antonio.
I lost personal contact with him after my own divorce but I always remember him as a very warm, caring, funny and easily friendly person.
I am shocked and sad that he is gone, and so young too! He was only 2 years older than me.

Rest peacefully Rick, even though I had not been in contact with you for many many years I always thought of you off and on, especially when I heard your broadcasts.

I am not sure if he remarried or not or if he ever went back to Debbie over the years or not, but my deepest condolences to his entire current and past family.

Life will seem somewhat less sunny knowing Rick "The Stick" is gone. :[
