Ricker and The Dog House slamming asians

As I'm sure you've all heard by now.... the show called "The Dog House" was suspened from the Free FM in NYC by CBS this week for making racial chinese jokes including the classic stereo-typical chinese accent.

How is what these guy's did any different from what "Ricker" on KISW does everyday with his terrible "Chinese Pizza" bit in which he does the most over the top "Chinese" accent out there and generally makes fun of Asians?

CBS was right to suspend the show for what they did.... why Does Entercom not only let Ricker get away with it... but they encourage it by selling "chinese pizza" ringtones and T-Shirts?

First of all Ricker has never made any racial jokes or directed any racial comments towards asian people. Does he answer the phone and play a character who has an asian voice? Sure but if you are going to fire people for speaking with in accent or playing a character then there are a whole lot more people other than Ricker you need to worry about...

Jesus Christ get a life and worry about something that is actually important

Spoken like a true white guy!

It’s not up to you to determine what Minorities find offensive, it’s up to them and the Asian community has been very clear that the over the top, condescending, stereotypical Chinese accent is in itself a racial joke and is highly offensive.

It’s cheap and easy comedy to mach the Chinese accent and is the sign of a lazy,
unoriginal, one trick pony of an air talent. That goes for Rosie O’Donell, Ricker and
anyone else that didn’t get the memo that it’s 2007 and that stuff won’t be tolerated anymore. You don’t have to agree with it... it just a fact of life now and there’s no going back.

That's fair enough, but you have to remember that this is not a "freedom of speech" issue. Nobody has said anything about these guys being fined by the FCC.

The airwaves that we all broadcast on are officialy owned by the people, but they're controlled by multi-million dollar compnaies that have advertsiers and share holders to answer too. CBS would let there jocks make all the racial jokes in the world if they didn't fear loosing sponsors or the support of Wall St.

For better or for worse... this is a free market at work, not free speech at work.

Unless of course it is an actual chinese person doing the over the top chinese accent. then its ok right?

kinda like only americans of african decent can use the N word?

I was not commenting on if the bit was lame or not... I was commenting on the fact that what Ricker does is not the same as a guy making caculated and targeted racial comments/jokes towards the asian community.

Take a look at any old episodes of Living Color, MadTV, or SNL and you will find somebody playing an over the top ethnic stereotyped character of some sort for the sake of comedy... What Ricker does whether you like it or not is no different, he has never made any offensive statements or comments towards asians or any other ethnicity on his show that I have ever heard.

Just because you don't like what somebody does or do not find them funny don't try and lump them into the same category as somebody who did choose to cross the race line with their comments.

"Spoken like a true white guy"

Mr radiofan07, I do beleive this is a racist statement in itself. What say you?

People like you are the reason lawyers are rich and satelitte radio subscribers will only increase in the years to come. Soon radio will become the same robotic society that you so want to live in, where no one can day a damn thing funny about anyone or anything because it offends someone.

Good times.

let us return to ground zero...Ricker isn't funny and so naturally he does trite, hackneyed material. Yawn. Freedom of speech is alive and well (er, maybe) but the freedom to offffffend and lose overly sensitive advertisers...not so much. Prediction: Somebody will figure out a way to say nappy head ho's on the radio and get away with it. Me, on this BORED, won't. I've had at least 5 posts just disappear lately. Sheesh Radio-info.

This is Ricker. Thanks for caring, friends. Everyone is a hypocrite in one way, or another. Wouldn't it be nice if we all let our sensitivities rest for a second and concentrate on some more imperative issues. Like that 99 cent burger you just wolfed down and how it came to exist in your hungry little, apathetic hands. And why the hell is it that I don't get any pissed off Irish people bitching about my "stereotypical" portrayal of them? You can call me a no talent, not funny hack and I think it's America expressing itself. Maybe you "Ricker" detractors should grow some thicker skin. Life is much more enjoyble when you can laugh once in a while.

Well hello there Mikey...

Just for the record, and to answer your question, The PC Police will still let white guys make fun of other "white guy accents" with out demanding that you be fired.

OK:
Irish / British / Scotish / Russian / Southern Hillbilly / East Coast and or Boston Accent... so enjoy these charcters while you can.

Not OK:
Asian / Southern Black Man / Middle Eastern / Mexican... sorry, time to retire those characters or wait for the PC Police to catch up with you and end your career (nobody wants to hire a so called racist... see: Don Imus)

You should go to China town, find a group of young asian men, do your "Chinese accent" and explain to them that they need to have "thicker skin" while they're beating the hell out of you. World, big baller.

Baby, if your saying that your on-air shtick is some grand representation of contemporary Americana - you are an even larger sign of the impending apocalypse than I ever imagined. Don't hide behind some lame ass claim that you are simply representing what America IS. You are smart, you're in a position of influence - you ought to be smart about it. I believe KISW was one of thee great music oriented radio stations in the US. Media consolidation has done a bulk of the damage to your radio station as a whole, marginalizing just about every facet of what was a tremendous brand here in Seattle. [EDIT]

[EDIT-inflammatory]

Yea Crow & West or Robin & Maynard never did any characters or voices that somebody might find offensive ::)

The problem is our society has become so damn hyper sensitive to anything that might be considered not PC that it borders on insane...

What ever happened to "Sticks on stones may break some bones, but NAMES WILL NEVER HURT ME".....
