Rickey Smiley back at WBHJ Birmingham

Summit Media has recently picked up B-Ham's Cox Radio division (and we all know the story of how Cox treats their TV stations better than their radio outlets), and plans on moving the Rickey Smiley Morning Show back to WBHJ this Monday. No more being stuck on the LP Power 102.1, so this should be a boost for Smiley since he started his career with Buck Wilde and that he is locally known there. The only downside is no more local AM drives anymore for Birmingham.

95.7 JAMZ sucks. I remember when I thought they were off the chainz with the mixshows and club broadcast from Platinum and Fox Trap. Those days are long gone!

I remember long ago, when I used to drive from Monroe, LA to Dothan, AL (8+ Hours) to visit my brother and look forward to listening to 95.7... Deja Vu, mixes, etc... A shame what has become of that station.

I know this will make Rickey very happy. Maybe Summit is going to try to get it back on track, you never know. It certainly can't be any worse than it is now.

I do not listen to this station,I hate 95.7 jamz,If they flipped to HOT AC IT would not hurt my feelings.

Chris If you programed KISS and JAMZ like you programmed MIX and The Beat I would be happy. All of Birmingham's stations need to be revamped

Well, listened last night and the live Saturday night club broadcast is back. It's a shame how awful Birmingham radio actually is and they have tons of Urban stations!!!

i know what you mean shawty grew up in this area.Back before JAMZ,KISS,HOT,THE BEAT,POWER,and the gospel station,we only had two urban stations,WTUG from tuscaloosa and WENN 107.7.those two stations were great, when they went down urban radio went down here too.I wish KISS and JAMZ never came because they suck

I'm not surprised. David Dubose & Co. has been itching to syndicate out the mornings on 95.7 since 2009. Roy Wood, Jr. return to Birmingham only shelved the idea temporarily. Maybe somebody at Cumulus will get a clue and drop Steve Harvey and go back local on 107.7. Let's be honest nobody in Birmingham is checking for Harvey as long as Tom Joyner is still on the radio in the mornings. I haven't resided in Birmingham (or Alabama) in nearly 6 years now but still would root for 107.7 to morph into a more competitive urban contemporary product. Maybe the Dickeys will even purchase the intellectual property rights of the 104.3 translator/96.3 HD-2 situation from CC. (It's not like CC can't use the cash considering Bain Capital is their true decisionmakers)

However, I'm spoiled to have one of the few well programmed urban stations (WVEE) left on the terrestrial dial audible in my home & my car.

I would like for 1077 to go that way too.Drop Skip murphy and go the way kmjm has done In st louis would be a start. Most people listen to kiss anyway for r&b and old school.Hot 1077 can drop 70's and play 2 80's songs an hour,1 r&b somg and 1 old school hip hop song, add more 2000 r&b songs and 2000's hip hop. Also they can had recurrent hip hop and some current hip hop. This will take some of the 25-40 crowd from kiss, jamz, power and the beat,I would like to have a station like this in Birmingham.

I realize that urban AM oldies is increasingly a "fringe" format, but for those of us who still love this music and the few stations left playing it, Sheridan-owned WATV-AM 900 Gold in Birmingham is about as good as it gets, in particular the evening and overnight shifts. :)

It would be nice if this station was on a translator,It would steal some listeners from kiss
