Rickey Smiley Exits Philly

Radio One's HOT 107.9..in Philly..has dropped Rickey Smiley's Morning Show. No replacement has been mentioned but Radio One hasn't had a consistent morning show on 103.9 THE BEAT/HOT 107.9 for quite some years. Meanwhile, across town CC's POWER 99 is live and local in the mornings.

With their Houston and Columbus divisions having local AM Drives on KBXX and WCKX unaffected to date, sounds like their is hope for local morning radio once again for WPHI. I wouldn't hold my breath for Russ Parr to be up there for two reasons: 1) not many stations are interested in him like they were in the 2000s, and 2) Radio One replaced him for Smiley in Cleveland, Detroit and St. Louis. IDK if PHI does have his On the Air weekend program like the others do.

KBXX here in Houston does have Russ Parr's weekend show "On The Air".

Here in ATL, HOT 107.9 doesn't air Smiley's weekend show. On-Air with Russ Parr airs here Saturday mornings 6am-8am. I think all Radio One stations have to carry Parr's weekend programming just like CC with Big Tigger's In The Den. WPHI has been through so many local morning shows hopefully they get it right.

They probably noticed that syndication doesn't work well for them considering CC's Power 99FM tries to be competitive locally in the morning. I feel like most urban stations in any market in the top 50 ought to try to do local in the morning because it is an opportunity overlooked.

Ricky Smiley Found A New Home At Radio One Richmond on Ipower92.1. This mean Russ Parr Morning Show is out in Richmond

He should... Russ is still a great talent, but he is so far removed from hip-hop culture. Rickey's show is far more relatable and entertaining (in my opinion).

Honestly, I am surprised Russ is still in syndication at all.
