I'm hardly a fan of Ricki Lake, but people I know who have seen the tapings say she did a pretty good job. I'd suggest you watch before making a comment. (Of course, traffic on these boards would be cut in half if that rule was followed ;D

Well I'm a fan of Ricki Lake, and I agree that we should wait until the show debuts before we can pass judgement on her performance.

Watched the first ep of "Gameshow Marathon" tonight, which featured the Price Is Right. She wasn't...terrible...but Bob Barker's shoes are far from being filled. Competent is what I would use.Price is Right is just an animal all to itself and, I don't think, lends itself well to this type of format. The other game shows in rotation will meld together better with the host and the celebrity contestants.

I thought that overall, last night's show was well done, but far from spectacular. I thought that Ricki Lake did a pretty decent job as host, but it didn't help that some of the celebrity contestants were idiots, especially Brande Roderick. Poor Leslie Nielsen looks kinda lost out there, and Tim Meadows (and Adam Carolla in the audience) look bored and didn't want to be there.Tonight is Let's Make a Deal, so we'll how much better this thing goes.

I agree that Ricki Lake was not the best choice to host theCBS Gameshow Marathon. But in fairness to her, Bob Barkerhas been doing Price for 34 years, has explained each pricinggame probably hundreds of times, and can probably do so inhis sleep. How well could any of you, me too, explain thesegames for the first time in front of a national television audience?But I definitely wouldn't consider her as a replacement forBarker when he's gone. The contrast is SO obvious; Ididn't even think Doug Davidson was as uncomfortable when hedid the syndicated show in the '90s. Being a teacher, I'd giveher an A- for effort, B for natural ability.

So then, Kennedy from friend or foe would be any better? I liked friend or foe and was upset when it was cancelled, so I cancelled GSN from channel lineup.

I don't recall saying who I thought would be better.I don't even know if it should be a woman. Kennedymight be OK, but since I've never been a fan of Friendor Foe, I can't honestly say. But it needs to be somebody,male or female, who can host a game show without lapsinginto stereotypical mannerisms (like the repeated "ok").Also, note that I gave Ricki Lake an average grade of B+,not terrible, not great. She does not have the years ofexperience of Bob Barker, Monty Hall, Bud Collyer, GeneRayburn, Peter Tomarken, Richard Dawson/Ray Combs,or Jim Perry/Bob Eubanks/Bill Rafferty. So I ask again:how would ANY of us do if we were placed in her shoes?

I thought she did a relatively good job hosting LMAD, although I have to admit I'm too young to have seen the original except in clips so I have nothing to compare it to.As far as TPIR is concerned, she tried to be too much like Bob Barker instead of trying to make it her own. She even used his "control the pet population" quote at the end.Let's put the hosting aspect aside for a second and talk about the show itself. A great idea, I think it could work in daytime when Bob is gone, with a few concessions. For starters, why do we keep letting celebrities be game show contestants. Have we learned nothing from the past?

What are you talking about? Celebrities as contestants is a great idea, just not all the time.When Celebrities were on Wheel of fortune, it didn't hurt ratings any...did it?Perhaps it depends on the gameshow, and how often Celebrities are used.I'm a firm supporter of the idea that if Celebrities are in shows or movies owned by the network, it's an excellent idea.A free plug for other programming on that station.That's why I think Match game pm should get another evening run...(but with the celebs on the pannel only, ofcorse, not in the contestant's seat, at least not very often...)

True, Wheel and Jeopardy! have not suffered noticeableratings declines when they've had celebrity weeks, andshows like Match Game would be nowhere without them.But the constant use of celebrities (WWE wrestlers, formerchild actors, etc.) on primetime Weakest Link helped killthat show. There seems to be a general feeling that peoplewould rather watch people like themselves competing formoney and prizes that will (hopefully) make their lives better,rather than celebrities playing for charity; it has more emotionalappeal.And as for Ricki's signoff with Barker's "help control the petpopulation...", it wouldn't be The Price Is Right without it.

Part of what killed the Weakest Link was when the host Anne what-ever the heck that Harry Potter Drag-Queen's last name is, called the George W. Bush an idiot or something like that. (Of couese there are many out there who agree with her comment).
