RIDOT Ways Traffic Cam

Recently, both WJAR and WPRI have been using RIDOT's cameras for live shots of the highways (RIDOT is the Rhode Island Department of Transportation). Still, WLNE continues to use their one skycam. Why doesn't WLNE use RIDOT's cams for their traffic reports? What, do they think they're too good for RIDOT? Thier one camera (which isn't really that great) is better? Or is it once again above their budget? It shouldn't cost that much to use RIDOT, especially since it's Rhode Island.

Are the RIDOT Traffic Cam pictures computer generated? I always wonder why the picture is a little blurry. <P ID="signature">______________

If you have another tv market topic to share, by all means do so. Don't, however, condemn those who wish to talk about the Providence market.

The DOT has installed many cameras to watch the highways of Rhode Island. The RIDOT has a website, which lists the cameras, and allows you to click on and see whats happening! Note that on the web, you will see still shots updated every 30 or 60 seconds. Cox' traffic channel is fed from the DOT and has moving images live from the cameras!

Some of the cameras are situated well, and the images usually appear nice and sharp, others, are not so hot. There are several factors - The DOT operative hasnt focused a camera, the position of the sun, (during sunrise there are cameras which if pointed south or east are quite useless. If they are pointed the other way, they are great)! I also feel some of the cameras havent been sited in the best position.

Why ABC 6 doesnt use the cameras, yet 10 and 12 do.. I cant answer that.

I was over a friends house this past weekend and noticed that the channel has added a Live feed of TF Greens Flight Departure and Arrivial status just like you would be able to view in the airport! I thought that was real neat!
