Riedsville Stations?

Does anyone know the status of the stations in Riedsville and who or how to contact the owners? I know they have been off the air for awhile and I know it is owned by a church in FL, but have no other info. I would like to find out what they are going to do with them.

Well, here's the real story, from a news item broadcast by WJXT-TV/Jacksonville in August, 2006:

YULEE, Fla. -- A man who once led a Nassau County church could spend the next 30 years behind bars.

Dr. Larry Montgomery, a former pastor of Nassau Baptist Temple who was in trouble with the law once before, was convicted of fraud and grand theft on Tuesday. He went into court Tuesday, and a jury spent about 30 minutes deliberating the case before coming back with the guilty verdict.

[EDIT-1]

In August of last year, Nassau Baptist Temple sold WNLE/Fernandina Beach, Florida (a C2 non-com at 91.7) to West Jacksonville Baptist Church for a million bucks in cold, hard cash.

I am told that they do want to sell the Reidsville stations (and there may be a sale pending), but they're apparently insisting that the stations keep a Christian (make that Independent, Freewill, Baptist-type Christian) format. Clearly, that limits the list of potential buyers, if that's one of the requirements.

If it were me, I'd propose the AM remain will a religious format (for a specified period...say for the remainder of the current license term), with no format or program obligations on the FM.

The stations must return to the air by October 5th, or the licenses will be cancelled.

The best bet is to call the church's Washington attorney, Jeff Southmayd at Southmayd & Miller. [EDIT-2]. I'm sure he can give you all the facts and figures.

Well, it seems that the stations have a sale pending with the FCC. I guess we will have to just wait and see what shakes out of this.
