'Riff-Raff' week

An early-July week usually brings in the radio 'riff-raff'...the 'media whore' hosts who pop up anywhere at anytime to grab a buck and some of that oh-so-warm media limelight. WEEI has Tom Caron, he of the nasly, irritating voice heard during Red Sox telecasts on NESN. I could stomach 90 seconds of him before his high-pitched nasal screech prompted me to change the station. He loved trampling on the co-host and callers every chance he had.

ChrisNH.......why don't you come out of the basement, throw out the empty pizza boxes and Playboys, and get some fresh air. You nuts in NH need to relax. Tom's from Lewiston, ME. You northern New England guys probably have a lot in common. Cut him some slack.

The media in Boston--sports or otherwise--have a massively inflated sense of self. It's good to poke 'em; no one else does.

Knowing that today was INDEPENDENCE DAY....and that a good portion of the radio programming was going to be pre-recorded...I opted to listen to CDs instead!

It was fun to revisit the 2 STAN FREBERG PRESENTS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA comedy albums....not to mention several of the John Williams film music scores!

Best of all...I DIDN'T HAVE TO PUT UP WITH ANY BAD OR OBNOXIOUS COMMERCIALS! ;)

Speaking of 'bad commercials,' have you heard how LOW WBZ will stoop to pour money through their operation and into the mouths of over-paid talent (and management) there? PURINA CAT CHOW! They even have had spots for a PET CEMETERY!! Advertising on AM radio is at an all-time worst. The only people who benefit are the TRAFFIC MANAGERS who have to keep track that 'The New England Subaru Dealers Traffic on the Threes is brought to you by Fi-Fi's Tanning Salons.'

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the dynamic duo of Mustard and Johnson filling in for D&C on WEEI this week. These two idiots actually make Meterparel seem likeable. Mustard is a smarmy jerk and Lame Larry Johnson is a class clown wannabe. Neither of them cover teams and they have no more sports knowledge than anyone reading the sports pages over coffee.

The other day Curt Schilling called them "little girls" and "two friggin' chihauhas". I hope Pete Gustin comes up with a bit based on that interview.
