Right Wing Talkers Have Secret Meeting with Bush

The New York Times:
As Talk Radio Wavers, Bush Moves to Firm Up Support

Last month, White House aides ushered an influential group of conservative radio hosts into the Oval Office for a private audience with the president. Mike Gallagher, Neal Boortz, Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity and Michael Medved.
The meeting, which was not announced on the president’s public schedule, was part of an intensive Republican Party campaign to reclaim and re-energize a crucial army of supporters that is not as likely to walk in lockstep with the White House as it has in the past. Conservative radio hosts are breaking with the Republican leadership in ways not seen in at least a decade ... on Oct. 24, the administration will hold something of a talk-radio summit meeting, inviting dozens of hosts to set up booths on the White House grounds, where top cabinet officials are expected to sit for interviews. And Mr. Bush granted an on-camera interview to Bill O’Reilly of the Fox News Channel. The first of three parts ran Monday night. (read more - Jim Rutenberg-NY Times)

Meanwhile, Rush Limbaugh (who repeatedly says he doesn't do an interview show) interviews Vice President Dick Cheney live today (Tuesday) at approximately 1:30 p.m. ET on his EIB Network radio show.

Sounds like the GOP is worried about losing the ditto-head vote. Also sounds like talk radio with an overt political agenda is not limited to AAR.

thanks for posting that article...I bet savage will talk about it today..."New york times says savage is number 3" neil boortz said on his show that he saved a package of equal sweetner with the white house seal on it......and Ken Melman is "coming out" to do interviews with local talkers??

Savage was not there. Although the Times went on to say, "Disgruntlement can now be found not only among the more flamboyant radio voices, like Michael Savage, who raged against Mr. Bush’s proposals on immigration and other issues..."

Talkers Magazine says Savage is the number three. The Times merely quoted them. Nobody who follows radio closely takes Talkers' rankings seriously. Even Talkers says they are "estimates" and "rough projections." Heck, they also say "Dr" Laura is number four (just behind Savage) and NOBODY buys that (except maybe her).

Fred, it wasn't a "secret", all the hosts talked openely about the meeting after it happened.

But then, that isn't sensationalistic enough for you and your hatred of all things not liberal. ::)

Yes, it was a secret before it happened, and then when it was all said and done, then they figured it was ok to announce it. Why didn't they want people to know about it?

Who cares?

Wow, conservative talk show hosts, who the lefties on this board have been saying for months are nothing but in lockstep with the White House, meet with the President.

Is this really news? Or important?

This is equivalent to me posting that Al Franken, Randi Rhodes, and Thom Hartmann met with Howard Dean. Not interesting, not news, and not unexpected.

Is this what we're grasping at now? Come on.

Since when is Howard Dean the president?

Damn, you Republicans are fantasizing about it too. Cool! Welcome aboard!

I see we're extrapolating. Fine.

If the right wing talkers so feared here are doing nothing but spewing White House talking points, how is it different than left wing talkers meeting with Howard Dean, who also has talking points?

I'm sorry to break-up your little left wing love fest here. Please carry on. Sorry, just needed to use the restroom. The stall is open for those who need a left-handed tug.

HEY! What about Stephanie? :)

we care. i think this is a great example of the far right wing conservatives being hypocritical again. they point the finger at MSM for being biased yet they have their own conservative network of talk show hosts right in their pocket, who then get on-air but never come right out and say "HEY, we are pushing the conservative agenda down your throats"

Is hypocricy the left-wing talking point this election period? Because that's what I see thrown around here anytime something comes up.

Media bias is more than just numbers of opinion writers, or avenues of opinion. It's also actual news reporting, story selection, analysis parading as news reporting, and other opinion tidbits in articles or reports that belong in fact on opinion pages or in commentary.

Conservative talk hosts are opinionists, as is O'Reilly. Couric, et al. are news reporter/news readers.

It's a utopia to think that everyone will forever and at all times be fair and independent and unbiased. So, just say what you are and it can be accepted or discounted at will.

Actually it's the fault of The Government (specifically The Federal Communications Commission) for having allowed all those radios to be manufactured. The ones that are locked onto a single right-wing talk station. The ones with no on/off knobs or buttons. The ones which, once plugged into the wall, can never be unplugged. Y'know, like yours.

I find it extremely ironic that these right wingers talk show host wanted to fry Al Gore over making campaign calls from his office. But the White House whole staff can campaign on right wing radio on the White House lawn. What happened to the law that says you can't campaign in the White House? Oh, it only applies to Democrats. LOL.

The law applies to campaign fundraising in government buildings.

As far as we know, no money changed hands...only the secret handshake of whatever group Alex Jones believes runs the government this week. Is he still on about the sacred concrete owl?

This is nothing new. If you listen to talk radio regularly, you know which hosts represent the White House and those who don't. It's not surprising that the former closely resembles the above list (Hannity et al). Savage tends to have a bit of resenment over being left out of the club, but his show is more entertaining and enjoyable as a result.

Money? So free airtime to 70 percent of AM Radio has no monetary value. I might agree with you if Al Gore was on Air America. ;)
