RIP 100.1 The Beat Columbia SC

:( another station falls victim to the CC anti-urban movement.

This market used to be on FIRE back in the day, so much competition and great sounding radio. What a demise, course I hate so see this happen in any market.

They will be simulcasting news.

blah

Im not surprised. I never listen to the station but Im sure it was run real cheap and VT most of the time. Im sure another Urban station will pop up later on down the road in Columbia

THE BEAT was live & local middays, afternoons and night. As far as another Urban coming Columbia, forget it. Good luck Inner City and HOT 103.9 will now win by default!

Well, it was a zero-sum game for Columbia either way with or without WXBT. Since Inner City gutted the Big DM 101.3 to become strictly UAC and syndicated, it has gone downhill overall with the quality of the market's urban format.

what is the future of Inner City? Hot 103.9 might be sold off.

Heck, they need to sell WWDM to someone that sees value in an urban format on a flamethrower signal. They could take that station places with its ratings and musical programming without WHXT as a flanker for playing hip-hop on that weak and displaced signal.

The days of Ice Cold Radio with DJ Prince Ice on the Big DM. I remember HOT 103.9 taking over Columbia when they first launched forcing Inner Cty to buy HOT 103.9 from Rainbow Radio.

^^^^Exactly Hip Hop BIG DM was one of my fav stations. I was mad when they made it UAC.

Took a visit to South Carolina for Thanksgiving and here's what I notice. In Columbia, I heard HOT 103.9 saying "Columbia's Only Hip-Hop and R&B Station, "Columbia's #1 for Hip-Hop" and callers saying "HOT 103.9 is my free money station, now gimme my money." Hmmm, stole that one from V103 ATL. Overall the station gave me similar sounds to HOT 107.9 here in ATL, but more R&B now that 100.1 The Beat died. Gotta chance to listen to BIG DM 101.3 on Friday headed back to ATL and DJ Prince Ice was mixing. He sounded great but not sure how the station sounds overall.

Down in Charleston, Z93 JAMZ still sounded a mess. The music is all over the place and the jocks sounded like college kids. This station has been winning by defualt for the last 20+ years.
