RIP Ben Amato (owner of KVST) - 1932-2026

Just saw this on KVST’s Facebook page - Ben Amato, owner of KVST in Huntsville/Conroe passed last Sunday, he was 94.

Ben was a great guy. His best friend, Matt Provezano, owned the station I managed.

Ben and Matt were fun to be around. Matt took me with him to meet Ben at an upscale bar. Once there they spied some lovely ladies and asked their server to send them a round of drinks but not to reveal who bought the round of drinks. As we sipped the beer, we amused ourselves as they tried to figure out who send them drinks. By the time we left they hadn't figured it out.

Ben treated me just as if I was his equal. Not many do that.

A Transfer of Control application for KVST was granted by the FCC on March 21, 2025 giving Benjamin Amato’s daughter Christine power of attorney over his financial affairs, including KVST, due to age related health issues. Appears the station will stay in the Amato family for now. The application includes some semi-private information, so I won’t link or quote it here.

Condolences to Mr. Amato’s family on their loss.

I recall when we sold (what was) 103.5fm to Ben. I was working for Rusty Reynolds and Dick Osburn at the time. When we realized that KAGG's in College Station signal hit a good chuck of Huntsville anyway, we unloaded that CP. Ben had such a bigger vision for that place-and it has been a great property for his family.
