RIP: Carter B. Smith

I just received word that Carter B. Smith, who had been battling a brain tumor for several years, passed away earlier today.

Very sorry to hear about Carter B's passing. A very talented radio professional. And you're right DJ - I met him once years ago (in his KNBR days). He was truly a nice guy.
 
A prince of a guy, not just his on-air persona, but in real life. A friend and an absolutely tremendously talented broadcaster!
 
He was a great DJ, very clever and classy. I remember hearing him for years on KNBR when they were still playing music. It's interesting that he died on the same day that KDFC went off the air at their longtime frequency of 102.1
 
A real gem of a person and one of the truly great broadcasters of our time. Anyone who listened to Carter for just a little while became aware of his very special talent. Someone I always looked up to, as a listener/fan to a colleague. Following in his footsteps at KFRC after Alliance melted down Magic 61 always made me a little bit nervous. See, there is room for really really really smart people in radio!

It was nice to hear the aircheck of the ol' KNBR gang. I miss the old KNBR-68 and Carter
"B" will be missed.

The subtitle of the radio museum's tribute to Carter is "The Prince Trapped Inside The Body Of A Disc Jockey."
 
I guess the good Lord needed a good voice to announce all the new fitness routines of the Peace Corp. They go in 3's.

Another great loss but a gain in radio heaven. RIP Mr. Smith
 
Carter B Smith is my god father and was always one hell of a guy.

Always positive and always had good energy, the perfect man for radio. He will be missed :(

And KRE AM & FM (1958-62), before which he interned at KSAN.

I had the privilege of Carter B's acquaintance on several occasions: all the Broadcast Legends luncheons we attended together, and the KRE Live! events for the past few summers. Even if he couldn't stay much longer (like after MCing), he at least would chat with us a bit before he had to run. Always greeted me with a warm "Hey Rick! How ya been?" and a handshake. I will miss him. Already do.

Carter B. Smith - For those of you who do not know, CHRS / BARM lost a good friend. Carter B. Smith, legendary Bay Area Radio personality passed away on January 24th after a long battle with brain cancer. Carter was a member of CHRS, the Broadcast Legends and was elected to the 2007 Class of our Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame. He supported CHRS and our work at KRE where he was on the air from 1958 to 1962. Carter always enjoyed being our Master of Ceremonies and spinning some 78s at our LIVE! at KRE fundraising celebration each July. He even did it sometimes for us when he wasn't feeling well. Carter was a good man and will be missed. A memorial will be held to celebrate his life in the next couple of months. Stay tuned, we will have the details.
