RIP CD 92.9

Are the two 92.9's different now? I thought both would be carrying the same thing.
That to my understanding has not changed at all. Has it?
If you want to totally give up, put WDLR on the Columbus 92.9. And that might be an issue when it comes to sports programming, at least whatever WDLR has left.
At the very least Columbus would have a dedicated Reds radio affiliate again. Unless 1270 dropped that in the off-season...

Might not know that for a while yet, but yes that would be nice. My friend who worked at WDLR passed away a while back. He's the person I usually would ask about their programming.

Marysville Reds fans will be better off hearing the games on WLW in that case. Most of the area WVXG covers is strong Guardians country. Some Reds fans, but much more Cleveland.

I don't understand the dislike for Randy or CD (whatever frequency) here. Or finding joy in the removal of a station that did, even if it was not your thing, have an impact on Columbus radio for several decades.

I have no problem with Randy or WWCD Ltd (it was a preset in my car when it was 101.1 and then at 102.5 and finally at 92.9) my issue is they have constantly painted every license they ended up being booted from as "bad guy" out to kill off their "precious local indie radio station" when they don't get their way. They bashed "streaming" for years then when they lost 102.5, they offered it up for free for a month until they entered the lease with 92.9 then quietly put it behind a pay wall again and now, they lost 92.9 they went back to free streaming.

In all their social media posts they painted 102.5 and now 92.9 as the "bad guy" .... that's the biggest problem I have with them. Be honest with your listeners.

Much as it's crazy to think (remember WWCD had a "Clear Channel sucks" bumper sticker on a cabinet in their studio) I can truly see them partnering with iHeart at least on a limited front (call letters, branding, maybe some shows at the Big Room maybe even some of the WWCD specialized shows being on 105.7 but iHeart's long game is always to flank competition in the market - it's the whole reason they moved 106.7 Dublin to launch RHY/CHR to go against 107.5 WCKX and they run throwback urban on 105.3 to knock some points off 95.5 and have kept WNCI and WCOL pretty much their formats for many years. And moved 93.3 to Ashville to take a few points off Sunny/Rewind.

Delmar is no saint I agree either - they could have had a better PR on trying to keep the alterative format on FM. I am guessing long term they will get tired of it (especially if Randy gets any traction with iHeart) and will flip it to something else.

I wish Randy well, whatever is next for him and WWCD Ltd.

Last I heard both translators and both AMs are still the same content (WXGT).

I heard Reds games last season on 105.3 "Throwback" - including long periods of WLW talk shows after the games ended when iHeart's automation missed putting the automated classic hip-hop back on :) Not sure if it was full time Reds coverage but many games did air there.

My feeling if WWCD actually does start to work with iHeart on 105.7

iHeart will likely keep the corporate driven alternative playlist but add in 1-2 songs an hour from 'local' WWCD artists. (They could even have the ad tag that WWCD Ltd did with Diamond Cellar for "Local gems" (We know iHeart loves to sell ads anyway they can).

IHeart will make some IP agreement or deal with WWCD Ltd for some of the "specialty shows' I can see a "Local Big Room' show buried on Sunday morning (92.9 had one before the format changed).

I could also see some of the current WWCD talent ending up on 105.7 somehow - 105.7 is mostly tracked at this time by iHeart talent in various markets/Columbus so they could easily plugin some WWCD folks if the deal with Randy is sweet enough.

My thoughts on "what could happen' if there is a deal between WWCD Ltd and iHeart. Guess we'll find out next week.

Mostly night and weekend games I think. A few years ago, before the pandemic, iHeart's sports director told me the limited Reds coverage was "the best we could do." I don't know why they don't plop the Reds back on 1230. No one is listening to the current format, and there's no reason they couldn't clear all 162 Reds games there.
Bizarre that WLW's programming would be available through the network feed. Shouldn't be unless the game content is coming straight from WLW and not off satellite. Never sounded like that to me when I listened.
As far as the programming being the same on both 92.9's, appreciate the answer. I keep forgetting to check 1550 and in Pickerington, Columbus' 92.9 is the only one that comes in.

This sure suggests that “Columbus Alternative 105.7” took the call sign in a warehousing move.

IMO, the likely outcome is that the current branding won't change and "WWCD Hilliard-Columbus" will be said quickly and buried in a stopset.

Would not be shocked - Kinda ball-sy if iHeart just wants to squat on the calls but given Randy's situation and lack of place to put them I can see as long as he does not feel like iHeart is going to be a threat to him (i.e. take his branding, listeners etc...) he might not care if 105.7 coughs the call letters in a stop set at :50 past the hour.

Based on the NBC4 article it sounds like he has bigger things to worry about at this point.

Based on the NBC4i Article posted it mentioned that the radio station income was holding up the "Big Room" bar ... if that truly was the case, I can see the desire he had for trying to make the deal for 92.9 as 'sweet' as possible in his favor...

At this point if he can't find another FM home, I feel like at some point we'll see the Bar be sold - that's prime real estate and I know it's very 'personal' to WWCD Listeners/Randy but a sale of that could at least let him prop up the WWCD Radio internet streaming venture a little longer (them ASCAP, SESAC, BMI, Sound Exchange, etc) fees are not cheap.
