It *is* kind of strange, as has been pointed before, that they're using "My" for this station when their very-different later-era Classic Hits at 96.7 also uses "My." Almost reminds of when Robb Case and Mark Litton had two Columbus market "Arrow" stations, with Arrow 105.7 doing the typical-for-the-90s all-gold Rock Hits version, and the other (107.1 IIRC) doing a broad 70s oldies format.

Wow, that's a really good comparison. I remember the Arrow stations well; I always vastly preferred 105.7 to 107.1. 105.7 definitely wasn't a classic rock station in the true sense of the term. Not many stations would have Pink Floyd, the Yardbirds and James Taylor on the same playlist. I probably liked 3/4 of their stuff and just waited for the rest to be over.

Regarding WHKC, the preach & teach programs pay the bills. And there’s little sales effort to attract and maintain them. Many are set and forget.
Couldn't agree more. I probably liked 90% of Arrow 105.7's music!
Im enjoying the new format. It could use a few tweaks. But it’s fun to hear the wide variety of music.
Listening to Yacht Rock on SiriusXM reminds me a lot of the lighter side of 105.7, a la Gary Wright, Linda Ronstadt, Boz Skaggs, etc. Obviously they don't go near the Beatles, Stones, Pink Floyd, Doors, etc. songs Arrow used to play. It was a diverse playlist, and I probably fall closer to your 90% than the 75 I mentioned lol.
But rounding it back to 92.9, their approach definitely reminds me of 105.7 in the range of what they play. I really hope it works out.
I enjoy Yacht Rock. Especially in the spring and summer. But the guy that does imaging……yuck.
I got to work at Hot for awhile in '92 between fulltime gigs. Great sounding station, and a great staff!
Actually forgot about the Arrow's myself - Grew up listening to Hot 105 and then Kiss FM! Two amazing stations for the time despite their limited signals back then.
I remember listening to Arrow 105.7 and hearing a number of times the back-announces of the 3-song sweep were simply not the songs played. (A science long since improved upon...)
I couldn't agree more. I never understood why they sounded so bad. Was it intentional to sound like a scrappy two-bit operation? Throughout the history of the station they sounded decent for a couple of years at the beginning of "CD 102-5". Anyone remember when the bass was cranked up so high it was overwhelming the audio processors general AGC (automatic gain control)? As I said earlier on this thread, the sounded like a bad Napster mp3 for what reason? As a former broadcast engineer, we worked to create the best and cleanest audio and video possible.
It was terrible. From stations I've listened to over the years, in my mind I have to go back to the 1980s where a small town class A FM sounded so bad.

The more we've discussed that station in this thread, the more I miss it! I still remember it every time I drive up 33 toward Marysville and beyond and see that field where the tower used to stand. Used to amaze me that I could pick it up so well on the Far East Side (and pretty much all the way to Lancaster and just about to Indian Lake) given how short the tower was and my distance from there.
Have you listened to WCBE (90.5 fm) since they dropped their news magazines and went all-music ? They still have NPR one-minute past the hour newscasts, and many of the late night and weekend specialty music shows like Echoes and Jazz Sunday. But otherwise it's their version of a AAA music format most of the time now.

Sadly, not surprised - running an internet only operation no matter how loyal your base is a very uphill battle (the royalties alone will eat you alive with any sizeable audience if you don't have a large cash flow). Randy tried I will give him credit for that but having an on-air staff, and making ends meet was not in his favor being internet only. [I had hope that the attempt to sell off the Big Room would have given him at least a little boost to hopefully overcome those challenges].
