What a great guy. Though i had great respect for Durning as an actor, I never knew the details of his personal life or his heroism in World War II.

1000% agree. I read his bio: only member of his Army unit who survived landing on Normandy and was captured during the Battle of the Bulge. Not sure how open Mr. Durning was about WW2, but I would've loved to hear his stories. What a great Man. R.I.P.
