Disney- listen up- like I said in the FIRST POST-Rick announced fri nite that the Jukebox is going to wkip in feb...this tells me that pamal is taking over Feb 1st. The transaction was approved by the FCC last summer. Like the grossly overplayed hit by Steam-
na na na na...hey hey hey.....kiss her goodbye....
Still looking for more info, rumors, etc???
I hope this station will go rhythmic AC like WNEW did with classic dance since they dumped a few weeks ago to "Fresh" as an AC format. I hope this rhythmic AC would do better than the former "Mix 102.7" does about three years ago. Hudson Valley hasn't been programmed a rhythmic oldies format for about 6 years since "Rhythm 94.3" flipped to oldies as "Cool 94.3". I want to see rhythmic oldies coming back to the Hudson Valley. I like to hear some more Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, Madonna, the Commodores, Isley Brothers, Rick James, George Benson, the Bee Gees, the Spinners, C+C Music Factory, Cece Peniston, Stevie B and a few others. Why not put more 80's freestyle music since Kiss-FM at 96.1 dumped the "Freestyle 4 at 4" last year before it became "Reggaton 4 at 4". It would do better than WKTU does now as well as the former "Mix 102.7" when it was a classic dance station. It will play some uptempo dance songs from the 70's, 80's and 90's.
As for oldies, "Cool 92.9" is not that great according to the Fall Poughkeepsie Arbitrons last week. It doesn't belong on FM, FM appeals to 25-54 demos. AM should fit for an oldies station for listeners ages 55+ demos. The demos ages at 55+ doesn't listen to FM anymore, because oldies doesn't work on FM.
This is what had happened with WCBS-FM in New York City back on June 3rd of 2005 when they dumped oldies to "Jack". When 101.1 had a terrible start in New York City since day 1, oldies still remains on 92.9 for the rest of the time being to picked up listeners who doesn't listened to CBS-FM anymore. This had nothing to do with WBPM. WCBS-FM's new format "Jack" that came out in the NYC Arbitrons that it is gaining up. Clear Channel needs to take that road show and take the circus to Pamal. Pamal needs a station to flip to become a classic dance station. This would bring listeners from the former B94, the original WBPM when it was originally on 94.3 when it moved to 92.9 back in 2004 after ditching the rock format from WRKW's "92.9 Rock".
I remember WCKL in Catskill, one of the most terrible signal AM stations ever when it was simulcasting "Cool 92.9" from Saugerties, NY. That lasted about a year. It went dark at sundown. And then after that comes a simulcast of "WCZR's "Cruisin' 93.5" which is still a competitor to "Cool 92.9". That lasted a few months until the station finally went dark. WCKL is one of the most crummy radio stations ever when it still remains dark.
I guess Warm590 got it right, next week will be Rick McCaffery's last "Solid Gold Jukebox" before the move to WKIP at 1450 starting February 1st. Oldies will be moving to the AM dial. Is Tony Flash will go to "Cruisin' 93.5"? Maybe. I'll have to aircheck Rick McCaffery's show. Is Nick Charles will go to WCZR? Will have to wait and see.
Or maybe move the "Cool 92.9" jocks over to 1450 AM and you will get a shot at it.
According to Cool 92.9's website, it doesn't have an online stream. Same as Cruisin' 93.5 did and it still doesn't have an online stream. WTRY in Albany does streaming oldies.
This might be the future plans for what Pamal is going to be if oldies will die on 92.9. How about the last songs before the flip? It will be:
1. "Hello Goodbye" - The Beatles
2. "Na, Na, Hey, Hey, Kiss Him Goodbye" - Steam
3. "American Pie" - Don McLean
4. "Rock & Roll Is Here to Stay" - Danny & the Juniors
And last songs right before the change will be effect soon if Pamal will be taking over the station. It's been about 14 months since Pamal is buying WGHQ and WBPM. CC is going to be sold these two stations to Pamal. Get ready for the biggest format flip ever since WCBS-FM did back in June of 2005. Be prepared.
As for now, Cool 92.9 will remain with the "Solid Gold Jukebox" with just the horrible liners done by Ziggy. Ziggy is still best when he did both the CBS-FM and Magic 100.9's sweepers. Look for Ziggy at WKLI in Albany. He is doing liners for Magic 100.9 with the resing CBS-FM's "Do It Again" jingles.
Pamal, are you ready to see 92.9 to do a format flip? Time will tell!
