RIP Dave Stout - Backyard Broadcasting News Director

Remembering Dave Stout

Long-Time Newsman/Former BSU Director Passes Away

Dave C. Stout, 63 of Muncie passed away unexpectedly this week. He had been battling some health issues recently but at this time no details are available on any specific connection to his death. Dave was the News Director at Backyard Broadcastings’ 7-radio station cluster based in East Central Indiana. A graduate of Muncie Central High School, Dave received a scholarship to Ball State University where he majored in Speech and Radio-TV. He also received a 4.0 grade point as he completed his Masters Degree in Journalism and Public Relations from BSU.

For nearly 24 years, Dave served as Director of Conferences and Special Events for Ball State University. He spent much of his early career as an announcer and newsman at various media outlets throughout the area including News Talk stations WHBU in Anderson and WXNT in Indianapolis.

According to Steve Lindell, VP/Operations Director at Backyard, “Dave was a wonderful guy and a real pro. He always had a positive outlook on his job and life, we will miss him."

Funeral and/or memorial service information are still pending.

Wow. Didn't the last ND at Backyard pass away unexpectedly a couple of years ago? :(

I had the opportunity to work with Dave at BYB in Muncie. Most of his time with BYB was in a part time capacity until being named the full time News Director over the cluster after Tom Hammond's passing.

Dave really was one of the nicest guys you could ever meet in this business. The utmost professional. He always had a great attitude no matter what the situation.

Dave had no immediate family, but considered us radio folks as such. I hope all of his radio family can be there to send him off.

We'll miss you, Dave...

So sorry to read about Dave Stout. I enjoyed working with him in radio for several years. I can remember so many times when Dave volunteered to make a rather long drive on short notice when someone was ill. I can remember his on many Christmas and New Years overnights, taking the shifts that were hard to fill. And I can remember always being able to depend on Dave to take his work seriously and be fully dedicated to it, even though it was only a part time job. Dave loved being in radio and seemed to relish every opportunity he got to be on the air.

So long Dave, and thanks for the loyal hard work.

I remember stopping by Dave's office in the then radio and television department at BSU. He was always genial and ready with a positive note. He had an "ON AIR" light in that office and worked weekends at the new WLHN Anderson on weekends and had a distinctive way of saying, "Stereo 98."

Dave was such a nice guy. I'm so sorry to hear of his sudden passing.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. I enjoyed listening to him on WTPI and WXNT.

I had the PLEASURE of working along side Dave at Backyard for a year. Wonderful man to work with. I always thought about emailing him to catch up. RIP
