RIP: Doug Pledger

I was just informed by Forrest Patton that Doug Pledger passed away this morning. He was 89 years old.

If you grew up around here in the 1950s and 1960s, Doug Pledger was a broadcasting institution -- morning man at KNBC/KNBR (680 AM), host of "Pledger Plays The Classics," advertising pitch man on radio and television, owner of KOFY/1050.

His stepson, Bob Faust, had provided the radio museum with hundreds of photographs and documents from Doug's personal archives. I'm working on a tribute in words and pictures to Doug that I hope to have up and running in the next day or so.

RIP, Doug...Another great jock from a timeless era.

The Chronicle, after only a week and a half, ran an obituary for Doug Pledger this morning:

Considering his popularity and longevity as a broadcasting personality here, I'm surprised that it took them this long to mention it.
