RIP - Drive 105

The new "format", Love 105, is so unpolished that this can not be the serious permanent format. The "stunting" was weak and screams of an even bigger stunt yet to come. Those three sticks are Dave Hamilton's toys and he's just messing around before Citadel comes in and does the real shuffle which is anyone's guess as to what the end product(s) will be.

If anyone actually thinks that the demographic they are aiming (W35-54) for (if this is for real) will have the patience to tune in to music that appeals to an audience that grew up on AM radio with three signals that are patchy and unpredictable, it will fail and fail badly. Those stations have never been given a budget and the seemingly low ratings they were getting as Drive 105 are about as good as they can expect for any format. The alt-rock format had a devoted and loyal audience who sought out the scrappy signals, an oldies format that plays older than anything on KOOL 108 will not pull in ratings or advertisers.

Totally agreed with the last post. This does nothing to protect mothership KQRS other than take away *maybe* a few hundred hundred listeners from WCCO in any given hour.

I find it amazing how many people actually believe this is the real final format for the station.

Also, this kind of niche "Love Songs"?? just SCREAMS stunt.

Oh no this is the new format. Its been done before in other markets. I love it its awesome. But Drive 105 will be missed.

I think Love 105 is going to take listeners away from KLBB AM 1220 because Love 105 plays some Adult Standards, e.g., "The Good Life" by Tony Bennett and "Something Stupid" by Frank and Nancy Sinatra. While KLBB AM 1220 is a big-band-intensive Adult Standards format, Love 105 is an MOR format. Welcome Love 105.

A good theory from a formatic standpoint, but I'm not so sure it would bear out in reality, as KLBB doesn't have a huge number of listeners to begin with. They do a respectable job of serving as the hometown radio station for Stillwater, but they only sporadically pop into the Arbs, usually with an 0.5-0.8 12+. Also, none of the 105 trimulcast signals has much signal to speak of in Stillwater; the closest one, while also on the eastern side of the metro, is too far south to do much good...

Will Love 105 last longer than V-105 (Drive's predecessor) did? Will any of the formats matter on the currently ABC-owned sticks once Citadel takes over (if they ever do)?

I would be willing to wager that on the full ratings period as Love 105 that the trimulcast will barely register (.5?) in the Arbs. Does anyone with a steel trap of a memory remember what the V-105 ratings were? If they are less than those ratings, look for Love to die a rather quick death.

V105 peaked with a 2-share at its launch in Spring '01. Their second highest rated survey was Winter '02 with a 1.6. The station was gone a few months later.
