RIP eX99. For reals

From their Facebook page:

Fri 10.26 at 5 pm will be THE END of EX99. We are proud to have carried the torch to the 20th Anniversary of one of the best radio stations ever, 99X (10.26.92). Without a massive corporate sponsor and advertising, we don't have enough resources to operate the station. Always intended as a "pop-up station", it has been a blast reconnecting with some amazing people in Atlanta. Cheers and THANK YOU. -Barnes

At least they tried.

I bet they pulled the plug because they know they won't be able to compete with Margot's "East Atlanta Village Radio" bringing the sounds of Dave FM back starting next month :D

Steve Craig and Margo are very much, IMHO, in the same league but I associate them with different music genres. She would be to classic rock what Craig is to classic punk and new wave..

Interested in seeing how she's going to pull that off considering music licensing but I'm sure she's got a plan...

Steve Craig ran a retroplex last week which was really nice. Feed came through iTunes..sounded really good. I could see him doing something similar.

I hope they get enough support to make it. Going listener supported may be the way of the future, or a mix thereof. As far as 99X.com, I am sad to see it go, but I think this brand is done, after the Cloud company pulled it off their big stick and it was orphaned to a low power translator 3/4 of their target audidence couldn't here, they just gave up and became Project listeners. When Project was killed, they just did what all of us did, online streaming.

I don't think that 99x is completely done. I keep hearing and reading things especially from whomever is controlling the 99x Facebook fan page and their email list from the web site. They keep showing new cards on the main page about future events so I'm not ready to give up on that yet. I also wonder about Rock 100.5 using the call letters for 99x thinking that might be what they are planning on once Dave FM goes sports. It's still a long shot, but one can hope.

As to EX99, I was a listener when I could yet there were times I couldn't since I needed to pay for it. I am unable to become a VIP member for Live365 at this time, and if they did continue it I would have done it in a heartbeat. I also knew that they might not be able to continue this service because of cost. Still it is great reconnecting with the old crew even though we've heard both Barnes, Jimmy and Steve Craig on Dave FM granted not at the same time. ;D

Granted I am hoping that East Atlanta Village will fill the void, but we don't know how long of a wait we've got since it's only one week we will be without Dave music until November starts. 8)
